My first 2 experiences with the “new” Southwest have not been good either. And I use them almost exclusively, am A List, have the card. First trip had a window seat and a preboarder was placed in the middle seat. Had to have her get up so I could get in, which was not easy for her…

Williamson county, for the first time I’m aware of, required precinct only voting today. We went to our usual spot and saw a handmade sign on the door about what precincts could vote there today. Had to do some serious research just to find our precinct and the website said we had two options, and neither of them was where we were. Drove to the first and it was a closed dentist’s office and clearly not a place to vote. There were tons of people driving slowly through the parking lot obviously looking for the same thing. Finally found the place we could vote, but waited an hour before we could even confirm we were in the right spot- the only spot in the county for our precinct to vote in the democratic primary. Took 3.5 hours. Voting has always been a simple, smooth, quick process here. Definitely felt like they were trying to make us give up today. And everyone was so confused.

Horrifyingly familiar. It is clear to me now that being soulless & cruel is, for millions of people, their default factory setting. Only imposing strong laws, unbending norms, & personal consequences will hold their worse impulses in check.
