I think I am understanding. If that protest vote was in WA or CA it doesn't make a difference due to the winner take all structure of the electoral college. Some states a protest vote makes no difference in another state it makes a big difference.
The largest group every election is non-voters. Over 1/3. Your vote is designed to not matter, which de-incentivizes voting, through the structure of the electoral college. The protest votes or non-votes only matter based on the state. Thank you electoral college. /s
