You know things are rough when the AAUP's advice on how to use social media is just "set all your accounts to private."

I completely agree with this. I’m European too and my heart breaks for our brothers and sisters here that are being so let down :( I’m sorry

Generally agree, but life is complex right? People come here for all kinds of reasons — work, family etc. and need time for situations to change. So I think it’s helpful to gather up some strategies for us all to use

I guess my main question is what does this mean for the rest of us, too. I'm a European working on right wing conspiracy culture with a long list of publications and travel a lot back and from. Should we see this as an isolated event, is this meant to instill fear? Help me make sense, kind strangers

When the government erases any mention, data or research related to words, will it be treated as a free speech issue?

This week's substack is out, and it's about doing ethnography and positionality in alt-right conspiracy spaces. I hope it's helpful to anybody. Get in touch if you, too, are thinking about this.

Fragile values In October, I started working on a new research project delving into the muddy waters of content moderation on tech platforms.

The ‘prioritization of speech’ over the protection of the most vulnerable users is reflective of the widespread, cross-national right-wing turn in politics (sigh…).
