Well, I just outlined a new book
Not that I have one novel half-finished and one novella 2/3 finished and should definitely wrap those up first
So obviously I will now edit some short fiction
my view on this is that publishers should stop it with the 80k wordcount obsession, so many contemporary non-fic books are obviously 40-50k pieces of work stretched to the extent that they become very boring to read - just let people write cheaper, shorter books! www.theguardian.com/books/2025/d...

Crazy that the late great Daniel Woodrell's books aren't in print in the UK. Someone buy the rights and reissue them!
After raving about him to my library Book Chat group this morning, (he's incredible), unable to order any copies in, Gollumming my own, I bought 2 used to share around the group.
I tried re-reading 'One Last Mad Embrace' Jack Trevor Story (1970) recently, bracing myself for a shocking incident of racism I'd remembered but kneecapped before I even got to that by the book's schoolgirl lusting. Never been clear whether he was trying to shock, to sell, or saw this as normal.
Alexis Taylor's Paris In The Spring (out a week on Friday) is a deep comforting hug of a record from which I am in absolutely no hurry to release myself.
Heard a few tracks on the radio last week and sunk straight in. Can't wait to hear the whole thing.
Not sure about the bed area but otherwise I ❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥that.
