When I was a kid, I had to find things to distract me from being bored.
Now, I imagine, kids/grown-ups have to work hard to to not spend all their time from being distracted by bullshit. Good knows I do.
This is the central tactic of bigotry, worming it's way into the media when the media has no interest in telling the long-view, and the public has no interest in considering the long-view.

Why not increase NPR's funding massively? Wide distribution, international footprint, decentralized control, and non-profit (so big tax break for donors). Huge opportunity for NPR to pick up journalistic talent, if it had the resources to do so. Seems better than starting from scratch.
This applies to Senate and House candidates too.
