Honored to be nominated for a SABR Analytics award alongside some fantastic writers in the Historical Analysis/Commentary category. I wrote about reinstatement of permanently ineligible players & the potential to make some HOF candidates ineligible via a new rule blogs.fangraphs.com/never-is-a-l...

With the election of Andruw Jones, 11 of the 14 players I profiled at length in The Cooperstown Casebook (2017) have now been elected to the Hall of Fame.

I mean, they play it as the ceremony lead-up every year. So, nothing will change.

The Days of the 300-Win Hall of Famer Are Gone Forever
Shorter starts, fewer victories, and higher earned run averages mean that voters are reconsidering what it takes for pitchers to get into Cooperstown.
The fact that FΓ©lix HernΓ‘ndez, Andy Pettitte and even Cole Hamels could all be Hall-of-Famers at some point is proof that the standards for pitchers in Cooperstown are (understandably) changing.
Thanks to @jayjaffe.bsky.social & @notmrtibbs.com for their help with this.

Surely Porcello was worthy over Beltran or Jones. We need a column sweep!

Thank you all for the birthday wishes! Have had a lovely day with the family, seeing Zootopia 2 and eating soup dumplings at Dinβs Kitchen in Sunset Park. Hereβs hoping whatever youβre celebrating today, youβre doing it among loved ones.
Please enjoy this birthday/holiday advice from my daughter

Absolutely nothing but respect for the US Postal Service over the course of my lifetime. But, theyβve had a rough year. Have a bad feeling we are gonna be missing a few ballots this year. The fact that the HOF does this in 2026 is wild. We need an entry system with multiple layers of sign-in.

The easiest NO for me on the ballot, and it wasnβt even close.
Iβd toss a courtesy vote to a one-and-done guy before Iβd consider Braun, and I donβt understand the mental gymnastics one has to do justify voting for him.
