I typically pray before I leave the house over myself and the other drivers on the road, but I had to say a second prayer when I parked at work. I saw so much straight up reckless driving, it was insane. Y’all school employees something else smh

Took off for my son’s first day of school and you know what? I think I will do this every year. Went to the gym, pedicure now, therapy in a bit, and Mexican food after that. Come through self care!

Also, growing up inner city where my teachers were former black panthers was a privilege as well. We were not coming out of school without knowing our true history. I watched When the Levees Broke and Ethnic Notions more times than I can count.

I’m also in denial about how old I am and how many historical changes we have lived through. It’s not a given the younger people will know what we know. We have to take the time to stop and educate.

I am realizing a huge part of the disconnect across generations within our race is the lack of known history. I’m seeing younger kids having their mind blown by that new Hurricane Katrina documentary. We know what happened because we lived through it. It’s not the same from them.
