Fabulous film...
Cracking artwork isn't it, and I most definitely agree. Donald Pleasence as Inspector Calhoun is priceless, I'd love to have seen more of him!
Honestly, it's a riot. So incredibly daft it's impossible not to have a great time...
๐
That's all very true but I can assure you there is something horrible in my attic, something so terrifying I refuse to even open the attic door. Spiders...๐ท๐ฑ
I mean, what are you meant to keep in a cellar if not a hungry tree God? Low budget even by low budget standards, this really defines bunkum and is all the more fun for it! I've always thought Vera Day terribly underused, so it is great to see her take the lead.
Good to know I'm not the only one plugging this! It's the kind of minor obscurity easily lost, so I post it every year to help keep it visible. I'm loving the sound of that TV station, nothing like that here when I was a kid.
I see where you're coming from, particularly with the poster, but John Wyndham wrote Triffids in 1951 and this probably has more in common with the US Roger Corman monster films of the same time. But yes, that lady munching tree does have the look of Triffid about it! ๐
Creepy Coulouris feeds the lady scoffing African tree beast in the cellar for serum to raise the dead. Naturally. Wonderfully loopy British B Movie bunkum. 1958.

You know, I'm quite familiar with Will Malone's work in the record industry but I'm not sure I was aware that he did this soundtrack!
Me too but it was harder here with our age restrictions. This one, like virtually all horror, was strictly X Certificate...
Certainly can't argue with that! ๐
Perhaps, but it's always subjective. Everyone will always have their favourite but as a whole I think the series deserves more love.
Yep, that was it's US release. Great title but I've always thought it didn't fit this film. Ironically for such an exploitive title change and poster, the US release was cut. Cracking film though, pretty grim stuff for a 14 year old!
That tracking shot is fantastic, it's gruesome and horribly touching at the same time. Nice shout on the score, it rarely gets a mention! Absolute classic of 70s British horror... ๐
Agreed, this is excellent and the second is enjoyably wild. I gave up after the dreadful third...
Can't argue with that! Hammers mummy films don't get the love they deserve, terrific stuff...
A rare flash of witty inspiration that soon passed... ๐
I'd visit that alternate reality, as long as it was a return ticket! Brando chewing the scenery as well as the cast...
Indeed, Pleasence and horror are like cheese and onion - good on their own, but together they're quite delectable!
And we do love a good 'what if' don't we! ๐ค๐
It's a real standout in 70s British horror for me, completely unlike anything else from that era. And yes, Pleasence is quirky even by Pleasence standards!
Agreed, cannibalism is hardly a savoury subject but I think it's around context as much as content and the tragedy behind the story here is oddly quite touching! I've never heard that rumour around Brando before, that would certainly have been interesting...

Eccentric Pleasence hunts cannibals in Londons Underground in the debut film from director Sherman. Gruesome and horribly tragic Britpulp classic. 1972.

Very mucho gusto indeed! ๐ค๐
I didn't know that was Macedo's daughter, that adds a splendidly ghoulish touch to an already sinister scene! ๐ฑ
Yep, got the Blu Ray. An absolutely stunning film, love it!
Still holds up brilliantly, for me it's one of the 70s best...
Now it sounds perfectly average, which kind of puts me off ๐
