Listening in on the legislature today, heard a PC MLA try to position his party as a paternal figure making tough decisions so we can live within our means, but they sounded more like a soon-to-be ex explaining that they need to pawn your grandma's jewelry because they gambled away the rent money.

I was thinking of hurricanes when I bought it, but it's turned out to be even more helpful for the winter storms. It's safe for indoor use, and hot food and drink are such a comfort.

I bought a secondhand fondue pot a few years ago. I have never once used it for fondue, but have absolutely used it to heat soup and boil water for tea during power outages.

The sports teams at my (Catholic) high school were called Crusaders, and I'm really hoping that's changed sometime in the last two decades, but I'm not looking them up to check because that's just asking to be depressed.
Anyway, here's a π§΅:

A photograph of the seminary gym in knives out. It has the same window.
Just watched the new Knives Out and I think it's really important you know that the scene in the Seminary's Gym is filmed in the same place Rick Astley filmed the music video for Never Gonna Give You Up.
I saw the window tracery and immediately made my friends pause the film so I could tell them.

a sign that says " what is even happening " next to a dumpster
Alt: In a flooded cartoon landscape, a flaming dumpster floats past a road sign that says "what is even happening."
The Heated Rivalry id vortex was a nice distraction from the constant hum of anxious dread that's settled in my spine from *waves arms in the general direction of the news* all this.

Rent for my tiny peninsula flat is still under $1000, but only because I'm my landlord's longest tenant and the temporary cap on rent increases came in just in time; I expect things to change as soon as that expires. I really need to get myself on all the co-op waiting lists.

Dearest Halipals, if you were in the square at midnight and caught video of this on your phone, sharing it would be a marvelous gift. Sincerely, etc.

I hope so! I know there can be something lovely about an ephemeral experience only shared by those who witness it, but that's for nature and the arts, not politicians acting wotless.

And that's just with the CBC folks off to the side of the square, so I can't imagine the nonsense that must have been happening on the actual stage.

I did not get on the Internet one day explicitly looking for a masked queer cowboy to start crooning at me, but guess what? It was exactly what I fucking needed.

When I politely expressed disbelief that today's caller was phoning from Telus his response was to repeat "shut the fuck up" three times and call me a bitch. I've been half-assing this but will now be screening 100% of unrecognized callers.

No worries! I'm sure it's a full trip. Heck, when I hop to Onterrible it's a miracle if I manage to see even a third of my relatives in the area unless there's a wedding or funeral, and pals are even harder to get in the same place at the same time.

a netflix advertisement shows a woman peeking out from behind a door and says j'accuse
Alt: Frankie Bergstein (played by Lily Tomlin) opens the door and walks inside, dramatically points towards someone we can't see, and says "J'accuse!"
I've had to turn on call screening on my phone to deal with the deluge of scam calls but once or twice a week one skips through and when the caller says they're phoning from Telus I just sigh and say "you're not calling from Telus" and they hang up immediately.

Thank you for the information! I figured it was likely, given the publication dates and all the other work you have been doing. So I'm going to encourage nibling to imagine their own Harriet or Danny adventure (and maybe even draw it?).

If I haven't raved to you about Ursula Vernon's work yet, you probably haven't spent much time sitting still in my vicinity. Her books for grownups are among my faves, but the kidlit is also deftly done. Get to a library or indie bookshop ASAP.

Years ago I started reading the Hamster Princess books aloud to them over video calls when they were grieving the death of their pet hamster. Retold fairy tales with talking animal characters and an entertainingly stubborn protagonist. The series was both a comfort and a delight.

One of my niblings saw some kind of poster or display at the library and is now convinced that @tkingfisher.com is publishing a new Hamster Princess or Danny Dragonbreath book this year. Every time they bring it up I do an online scan hoping that they're right. (no luck yet)
