Check out this new report! Corporate capture of our media is why we need media interventions not just at the level of storytelling & messaging but at the deeper level of community/worker ownership & democratic control.
Our report is the catalyst, but we need your voice in the conversation!
Join us NEXT THURS, 3/12, for our LIVE launch, where weโll:
๐ฅ Dive into the ways Tech Oligarchs are capturing our media system
๐ฅ Connect your fight to the media system
๐ฅ Break down why it matters

The same Tech Oligarchs profiting from surveillance contracts with ICE, building #DataCenters that drain water & raise utility bills in Black & Latinx communities, & lobbying against AI regulation also own the media platforms that should be holding them accountable.
Our report connects these dots.
Launch graphic for MediaJustice's NEW report, "Media Capture: Who Controls the Story Controls the Future." A tech oligarch hand reaches down, picking up a TV icon representing CNN to add to their collection. The hand is filled with rings emblematic of other media (CBS, TikTok, Paramount Skydance, and TIME) and bracelets (MGM Studios, The Atlantic, The Washington Post). Below the hand is a receipt machine printing a sales receipt for Paramount ($8B), Washington Post ($250M), Time ($190M), MGM Studios ($8.5B), and The Atlantic ($100M). Below is the report bitly link "bit.ly/mediacapturereport".
Today, weโre releasing our NEW #report, Media Capture: Who Controls the Story Controls the Future. ๐ฑ๐ฅ
#Media is NOT neutral. Our report maps how #Tech Oligarchs are capturing the media ecosystem through ownership, monetary power, and platform control.

Our Sr. Movement Building Director, @myaishahayes.bsky.social breaks down our two takeaways from Trumpโs #StateoftheUnion address this week.
So Amazon Ring cancelled its partnership with Flock Safety after a wave of backlash from the public over it's new Search Party feature due to the obvious ways the company is blanket surveilling entire communities- what's next? ๐ชก๐งต...
www.theverge.com/news/878447/...
"ICE is a financial conduit between the federal government and the tech industry, namely the data-mining firm Palantir. Silicon Valley execs and Capitol Hill suits are getting rich and doing each other favors while a band of thugs threatens our communities and our democracy."
"Why is a company that powers mass surveillance and immigrant enforcement so deeply embedded in our political system in the first place?"
#PurgePalantir @mediajustice.bsky.social ๐ซก
Flock isnโt Amazonโs only surveillance partnership. It also works with Axon, a company most known for selling tasers, body cameras, and surveillance dashboards to police. Axon also lets police request Ring footage without a warrant.
Amazon might have cut ties with Flock due to backlash, but links to the surveillance state are baked into its business model. Ring became the #1 doorbell camera in the market via police partnerships, even hawking free devices to attract customers. www.latimes.com/business/tec...
We all knew that Amazon Ringโs โSearch Partyโ feature wouldnโt stop at looking for dogs. In leaked emails, its founder talks about using it to search our sidewalks for *anyone* โ thatโs a constitution-defying power that no corporation should have.

The Department of Homeland Security is flooding social media platforms with subpoenas demanding they unmask the people behind anti-ICE accounts.
This crackdown on speech shows EXACTLY why online age verification laws are so dangerous.
Here's why: ๐งต
A red to green gradient illuminates the backdrop. In the center is a stylized web page window with text reading: "Social Media Manager; Role: Part-Time; Hours: 20/week; Salary: $36-40K; Location: Remote." Below this are two options: "Apply" and "Ignore." On top of the web window reads: "MediaJustice is hiring." Below the window to the right reads, "Why MediaJustice? A fully remote organization with flexible work schedules. 100% health insurance coverage for part-time employees. Monthly wellness and home office stipends." On the left is a hand holding a phone showing MediaJustice's Instagram feed.
Want to manage our Bluesky? ๐
We're #hiring a part-time Social Media Manager who can:

๐ข Amplify rapid response requests from local community groups.
๐จCreate dynamic visual content.
๐ชดHelp us grow our audience.

NM is moving to put guardrails on license plate reader surveillance. The Driver Privacy and Safety Act would ban ALPRs for general surveillance/civil traffic enforcement, limit what data can be shared out of state.
One wild stat: 80,000+ Flock cameras installed nationwide. @mediajustice.bsky.social
A screenshot from Ring's Superbowl ad depicting a surburban neighborhood becoming a mass surveillance network with its Ring camera coverage. A pink grid overlays it with the title, "Ring breaks up with Flock." A broken stylized heart falls to the side. A caption reads, "Following the backlash they received for their Superbowl ad, Amazonโs Ring cancelled its partnership with Flock, which would have shared access to its over 10 million private security cameras and their data collected nationwide."
A pink background with a green teal grid sets the background with a microphone and Flock camera perched on either side. Title A reads, "This is a HUGE WIN by Blocking an Expansion of the Surveillance State" with the following text under, "Flockโs massive AI-powered surveillance database gives unprecedented and warrantless access to the police and has been used to track abortion seekers, target protestors, and collaborate with ICE to surveil and detain migrants." A secondary title reads, "BUT Amazon Continues to Partner with Axon Enterprises to Spy On Our Communities" with the following text under, "Axon Enterprises offers a direct line to police and ICE by providing tasers, body-worn cameras, drones, and automated license plate readers."
A pink background with a green grid overlayed make up the background. Our Head of Programs, Jacinta Gonzรกlez, is seen speaking on the lower right corner. The top title reads, "Mass Surveillance is NOT neutral." Under this reads, "It has always been built on anti-Blackness, xenophobia, and settler colonialism. AI automates this violent legacy." Under this is a secondary title, "We Call On:" With the following bulleted text under that, "Ring customers to stop using the company's products; Communities to continue organizing to shut down Flock, Axon, and every tech corporation that wields its wealth and power to extract from us."
#Amazonโs Ring is breaking up with #Flock! Now that weโve cut access to 10M+ household cameras with the police and ICE, letโs take it a step further and cut Ringโs partnership with Axon Enterprise.
We deserve a world without surveillance.

Last week we hosted a LIVE conversation exposing how #Ring and #Flock track and sell us out to the police and ICE, just in time for Amazonโs #Superbowl propaganda ad.
Watch the full recording to learn how this #tech does nothing but surveil our communities.
www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nul_...
Worth noting that a lot of this surveillance infrastructure was funded and promoted by Democrats who framed it as a more humane alternative to Trumpโs โwallโ
The evidence suggests the โsurveillance wallโ actually lead to more deaths in the desert
โNo matter how Ring and other surveillance tech companies may downplay it, thereโs no world in which finding lost dogs is the final end-use for this technology.โ
Really great breakdown reminding folks that Ring has a LONG history of privacy violations and shady partnerships with law enforcement.
We welcomed 90+ SW organizers to Tucson, AZ for a #DataCenter training, in collaboration with @nodesertdatacenter.com! ๐๐ต๐

Palantir partnered with US officials long before Trump. They do business in the shadows while their contracts track our people.
