"My opponent did a good thing but he didn't need me to do it" is strategically stupid and morally vacuous
If we take him at his word (I know, I know), this is strange. He is saying that DoD agreed to same things Beta Pete melted down over with Anthropic. Am I misreading?
PS I had to look it up, so maybe helpful 4others: FDE = Forward Deployed Engineer.

I continue to be fascinated by the phenomenon whereby an expert engages with any of the LLMs on their field of expertise and is instantly horrified by the wrong answers, and then goes on to use it for things they are not experts in as though it won’t be just as bad for those.

We should be talking a lot more about how the San Francisco tech scene is populated by a strange cult of doom acceleration nerds who fantasize about using computers to destroy humanity.

hatred of unhoused people is genuinely a pipeline to fascism. if the wealthy can get you to dehumanize your own neighbors, then they can get you to do it to anyone.
Pay CLOSE attention to the wording in any DHS statements.
DHS will say "armed suspect"
DHS will say "approached officers with a gun"
These are copaganda phrases to make it SOUND like the victim was holding or brandishing the weapon. He was not.
I think the LLMs get the tech bros so hard because it more effectively hides the Mechanical Turk nature of all capitalist technology, but its also why its value is purely speculative: just trying to resell and reprocess already multiply depleted labour power
A network of Chinese influencers projects wealth by pooling funds for common Gucci stockings and fancy hotel rooms ("consumerist coop"?). Then comes the tragedy of the commons: the stockings aren't laundered and several get a fungal infection.

In case you were wondering, the solution to all this is NOT more neoliberalism, abundance bros, mass incarceration, meeting Nazis in the middle, deporting people, coddling billionaires, or throwing trans people under the bus.
In the kidnapping video I posted above, the young kid in the blue Walmart vest getting roughed up by ICE, is 20-year-old Adrian Martinez, a US citizen who was taken hostage by ICE for speaking up for his kidnapped coworker.
“Apparently the guards lost control of them,” Cetin said. “And they started to, you know, create a disturbance. They came back up to the third floor, where my client is. Basically, they blocked off cameras, security cameras, and some of them made their way into a housing unit with a very thin, shallow wall, and they knocked it out.”
Detainees knocked out an interior wall that led to an exterior one and from there were able to escape to a parking lot.
A different news report says that members of Congress who inspected the facility today reported the wall they knocked down was made of drywall and wire mesh.

NYT found the “big beautiful bill” would be the largest transfer from the poor to the rich in a single law since at least 1990.
In fact, it would be the largest transfer *ever.*
Reagan’s low-income cuts were MUCH smaller - and his tax cuts were done separately. And before him, nothing comes close.
the question after that is why this scrutiny is directed at protestors rather than cops - who have every conceivable advantage on exactly this score (set personnel, formal responsibilities and hierarchies, etc) and who as a matter of public record consistently fail by exactly this standard
how this point interacts with the norms of commentary on protests: if it's true that *any* destruction and disruption will attract a disproportionate amount of attention, then fingerwaggers labeling protests and protestors basedon these scenes are in effect demanding blanket, total discipline
Law enforcement is violently targeting press at protests around Los Angeles, from easily recognizable "mainstream" outlets to freelancers and independents. ALL press have explicit legal protections in California. #JournalismIsNotACrime.
This evidence thread may get graphic. 🧵👇
This is exactly what I mean when I say that it is impossible to reduce friction, only to move it around.
The text-making-up machine dropped the friction of "research" to zero, but every single person downstream of that "research" who has to act upon it now shoulders a double workload.
Good news! Pre-order now open for the Radical Communicators Network anthology. Honored to have contributed a chapter with the wonderful Jen Avril on HIV and Long COVID justice movements! And check out the RadComm starter pack linked below @https://www.liberationstories.com

Mohsen Mahdwai, a greencard-holding Columbia student who worked to "build bridges" w/Jewish & Israeli students on campus, was just arrested by ICE.
In a cruel twist, USCIS invited him for his naturalization interview & then took him into custody.
It was a ruse.

I have been hesitant to share my work lately b/c we are in crises, but increasingly I think we need affirmative visions & not just defensive actions.
We need a Project Now Until Liberation.
I think the two pieces I am sharing here can contribute to that. So, w/a deep breath, here they are - 1/3

Rep. LaMonica McIver: "We are at war!"
Curious how we keep hearing about people surprised by this and not the many who saw this coming a mile away.
Just received this email (received 3:25 pm ET), from the NSF director, informing that DOJ has interpreted the temporary restraining order on the funding freeze as applying to “all NSF award recipients.”
Again, I’ll shout it from the rooftops: lawsuits matter!!!!
