And in other news, a cautious peek into Bluesky this week demonstrates I am
a) still better of logged out, for now at least
and
b) still not well.

Why are my foundation year students lesser than? I've had it up to here now.* Why do VCs persist in building barriers and generally make everything harder for everyone?

*British understatement for I am absolutely enraged.

Unfortunately, this is all perfectly legal, if not ethical or right.

The BBC is reporting that this hoard has been sold at auction for ยฃ33k, to an anonymous US collector.

So, these historically significant coins, which should be in a museum in the UK, are now lost to the nation forever.

A sad outcome that reflects poorly on all concerned.

Some good things today: a successful viva, some reading done, an old friend spotted in the UL tea room.

Much that is doing my head in on bluesky, so I'm going to log off again. Lent starts tomorrow so seems a good time.

I asked Jacqui Smith last year what other models she was looking at to avoid getting stuck in thinking the US and Australia are the only ways of running a higher education sector.

Her response?

That she didn't have time for that...

The deliberate ignorance is going to kill us all.

My first step would be to introduce a license (with fee) granted after completion of test on, & agreement to follow, code of practice. Rewards capped to token amount.

In perfect world, we'd be claiming everything of #archaeology interest... and funding heritage properly!!!

One of these universities is my former employer. What makes me really angry here is that everyone worked really hard in the face of completely unprecedented circumstances to run courses. Students shouldnโ€™t have a case in that context.

Tinsel to tidewall: discarded Christmas trees reused to protect Lancashire coastline The trees also morph into sand dunes to protect homes on the seafront against rising sea levels and serve as habitat for rare species

'Tens of thousands of discarded Christmas trees have been partially buried on beaches south of Blackpool as a frontier against rising sea levels.'

Funding further archaeology by flogging off heritage is also clearly not sustainable. 2/2

Professor finds Iron Age coin hoard near Bury St Edmunds Tom Licence says he feels a personal connection to the coins, which are to be auctioned.

Much that is troubling here. We lose precious context, the hoard is split up and passes into private hands. 1/ BBC News - Professor finds Iron Age coin hoard near Bury St Edmunds - BBC News

This is what happens when 'treasure' can't be bought by a museum - the hoard has been broken up into individual auction lots & will disappear into many different hands, some overseas.

When do we start saying enough is enough??
