I know Jim actually. He always seemed pretty level headed and mostly thought the FDA was preventing a lot of otherwise good research from being allowed, which is a common sentiment in the US research community.

Why do cops have awesome power and no oversight?
Biggest reasons: 1) taxpayer funded PR propaganda campaigns, 2) a monopoly on violence, and 3) the weaponization of criminal punishment system against the people who criticize them.

It is absurd to think US can host the World Cup next year. This is not like hosting Olympics in 1936 Germany, it is like hosting Olympics in 1938 Germany.
