I was going to ask if it came with an apology note.
Dubai now
One of its flaws was failing to see layers of civilizational overlap that leaves a lot of gray areas. There is space for understanding, not just "clash" - like with Arabic speaking Jews and Palestinians, for example.
Western Civilization is a strange hill to die on. Active Christians today live in Africa, Asia, and South America, more so than Europe. Not to mention that ancient Persian culture is praised in the Bible. So going into a pseudo Huntington mode isn't a good rationale for this war.
No, it won't. And he really has a big mouth.
So sad.
No, this will be a great moment.
Israel is essentially telling the people in the southern suburbs of Beirut to evacuate now, with large areas of southern Beirut encouraged to leave soon. Crazy.
Those numbers also don't exactly reflect what the percentages are in urban areas. When you look at major cities it's huge overwhelming majorities of migrants in every Gulf country.
BREAKING: Nationwide electricity outage in Iraq
That's possible. It could have been negligence. But in any case, we'll have to see an objective investigation.
This is a worrying trend. While it has been a theoretical possibility for years, it has rarely occurred in practice. Israeli air defenses could well be tested if this continues.
Yeah, they went downhill but Corban stayed in the music industry and became a corporate rocker... I don't blame him. It's hard to stay angry when your filthy rich.
*used to make good rock music. I can't stand anything they've made since the early 2000s.
β‘οΈβ‘οΈQatar declares a state of emergency, stopping all gas production.
Israel needs to be very careful with Lebanon. A good part of the country wants Hezbollah to be disarmed, but no one wants a new Israeli occupation.
The NyTimes had a good map of the school in relation to the military targets. It wasn't far, but I doubt it would have been targeted. It was a known building.
So far only regime sources have been speaking about this alleged tragedy. They also said only 3000 or so people were killed in January. But many Iranian sources say far more than that were killed in cold blood.
I should have said allegedly. It wasn't a target, according to American and Israeli sources. But the Iranian sources aren't reliable at all. I can ask my Iranian friends and experts what they think and get back to you...
It might have been. So far there is no objective evidence. The regime that regularly lies to its own people has zero credibility.
It was also heartbreaking when the regime was mowing down Iranian civilians a month ago. Not to justify this tragedy, but it was obviously an unintentional mistake. Not anything like decades of religious police aimed at the Iranian people.

Still, memories will change the feelings of the present.
When the dust settles, the Gulf States will remember how the regime lashed out at them over the war.
One thing I can easily imagine: Hezbollah going full on Joker after this, if it survives. Lebanon has taken a side, and it ain't that of the muqawama.

This is such a lazy take. Just reading it reminds me of hitting the snooze button on my alarm at 6:30.
I think one of the classic mistakes most people, including very smart ones, make is underestimating their enemies.
For Israel, the resistance axis has been in place since the early 80s. It has been it's biggest threat, and when taken together it does in fact represent an existential threat.
This is weird authoritarian shit. Plenty of democracies allow contempt for the leader(s) whether or not you voted for them. It isn't even about being a "radical liberal" - you can be totally conservative and feel betrayed by your leader(s). The problem is contempt alone won't change much.
