The thing is that, until 3/7/24, I was sole person responsible for day-to-day running of El Nacional IN ENGLISH. Then they fired me and others (and did it badly). But the main news page in English remained on-line and frozen: showing the same outdated stories every day to a few confused readers!

Yes, but the scientific value of graphing the anomaly is, I suppose, showing that the anomaly distribution curve has its tail stretched out to the left (lower) end. Yet the significance of this is not discussed in the article, nor is the graph itself labelled as showing "Anomalies". Too hard.
In fact, graphing the anomalies from average sea ice extent, instead of absolute figures for that extent, creates the pretty iceberg forms, but probably confuses the real meaning for general readers. "Zero ice" would not have a fixed position on this x-axis, but would be a fuzzy area way out left.
Pure enshittification. Jam in a commodity summarising feature because you think you should use it ,while actively degrading the real utility of your product for your most engaged readers.
