What on earth is this then? A bundle of reeds suspended from the roof of an 18th century Lincolnshire house. An uncommon sight but we have testimony from a former landowner to explain it. To find out more, join me on 2 April for The Folklore of Ancient Buildings:

There is a viral video doing the rounds by The Tower of London which takes on the castle spiral stair swordfighting myth... but the comments are full of questions about why its a myth. Well, it *is* a myth and here's how we know...

I saw them all when they were repeated in the 00s, I think. Only one series seems to be available on the iPlayer currently. I had a semi-regular gig on a C4 archaeology doc a few years back and do odd media spots but can't seem to get any kind of regular spots or feature docs. It all seems dead.

Well done, Jamie! Brilliant stuff. Sadly, I just cannot get anyone interested in putting buildings archaeology on the tellybox these days. Just a total blank... and yet its been so rarely done onscreen despite a public appetite for such stuff. Very frustrating.

I'm rewatching Travels With Pevsner from 1997, and feeling nostalgic for a time when: a) the BBC still commissioned quality six-part documentaries on architecture; and b) Dan Cruikshank was allowed to quote John Vanbrugh verbatim on primetime telly...

My next online talk will be a look at The Folklore of Ancient Buildings. I'm especially interested in how archaeologists and folklorists have worked together to interpret the evidence for traditional beliefs in ancient buildings...

The VAG are really hot on reporting all dendro annually, though. The dendrochronologists are very much on side with this.
