On 27th April, my friend and I are fundraising for Macmillan by completing over FOUR marathons in one day between us (141 miles in total)!
Run โ 26.2 miles
Row - 26.2 miles
Ski - 26.2 miles
Bike โ 62.1 miles (100km)
Any donations would be much appreciated www.justgiving.com/page/4-marat...
A scatter plot matrix depicting respiratory and cardiac threshold, slope, and metacognitive confidence. Only confidence correlates between tasks.
A question that comes up in almost all of my talks is: are respiratory and cardiac interoception correlated? Aside from subjective confidence, the answer is no (see figure). Working on a new little paper with this now.

Don't miss out on shaping the future of body representation research! ๐โจ
I could not find a body representation starter pack so I made one! Please message if you want to join. I know I missed excellent scientists, philosophers and clinicians out there go.bsky.app/EAmckAo
We also provide directions for future research which will serve to advance the current knowledge state and test the hypotheses put forward by our model
Based upon these findings and drawing upon principles of interoceptive inference, we propose a three-stage model which outlines how HR(V)-BF may improve interoception
However, we observed that an effect of HR(V)-BF on interoception was more likely to be observed when the intervention was more intense (i.e., more sessions) and when a resonance frequency breathing protocol was adhered to
Overall, we observed mixed results across behavioural, physiological, and neural outcomes related to interoception
In this systematic review, we assessed the current state of the literature with regards to the effects of heartrate (variability) biofeedback on interoception, and its potential as an interoceptive intervention
Delighted to share my my first, first author paper:
The Utility of Heartrate and Heartrate Variability Biofeedback for the Improvement of Interoception across Behavioural, Physiological and Neural Outcome Measures: A Systematic Review

Got a bad gut feeling ๐? In a new study, led by the brilliant @leahbanellis.bsky.social and Ignacio Rebollo, we combined fMRI & electrogastrographic (EGG) imaging in more than 200 participants to uncover links between the gastric-brain axis and mental health.ย www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1...ย ๐งต๐
Really interesting work!
