Also, The Art of War is a fascinating book, but at this stage I’d be happy for no one to read it ever again. Or at least ban its sale within two miles of a Moss Bros.

“And the lunches!”
It’s a big place but has also atrophied the minds of many an American town planner. When you’ve stopped at a Wendy’s and want to go to the Target next door and realise there is literally no way of doing that that doesn’t involve getting in a car.

The child is getting into Sonic the Hedgehog but my knowledge of Sonic the Hedgehog doesn’t go beyond 1997. They’ve rouged a bat now?
we bag on the boomers a lot, but they dealt with their mid-life crisis in a good and normal way (buying a red sports car and having an affair with their secretary) whereas Gen X is all "maybe this next genocide will finally make them bring back the square spongebread cafeteria pizza"
Saw this yesterday - my movie highlight of the year so far.
Jesus. Being a parent is a lifetime of conversations you’re not ready for…
Flying action heroes? Conversation
Do their toys come alive at night? Conversation
Is Santa real? My friend said he isn’t
Conversation
The Borg Queen from Star Trek: First Contact. She's a terrifying bald cybernetic monster who is absolutely rocking that red lipstick, girrrrl
The T-Rex from Jurassic Park, breaking through the barriers that kept her from achieving her full potential (eating whoever she wants)
The Xenomorph Queen from Aliens. She's a horrifying mass of insectoid limbs and black carapace. She's making her own way through the galaxy in the face of adversity, all while raising a family. You really can have it all.
Jobu Tupaki from Everything, Everywhere, All At Once. She's wearing an outfit that's a riot of different colors and styles. That's because she's out there girl-bossing and living her best lives, all at the same time. That's multitasking!

Connor MacLeod in his loft: giant window overlooking NY, glass table with framed black & white photo, big bronze sculpture
Connor MacLeod in his loft at night. view of Manhattan skyline from his window. they built the apartment in London so they actually used translights (giant illuminated backdrops) for the view.
my favorite room: big round conversation pit surrounded by museum pieces (armor, sculptures, probably swords, etc.) with a stained glass skylight above.
Connor lounging in the main living space in his loft. it's 2 levels with stairs and railings above, big sculptures, piano, green aquarium, books, big soft gray sofa in a sort of recessed area (kinda like a conversation pit). lots of misty light
Highlander also gives us one of the coolest living spaces in cinematic history
Anyone got any recommendations for how to do family history interviews? My mum wants to get her life story down & I’ve volunteered to interview/tape/transcribe/assemble it. Had our first go yesterday and what emerged was not 6000 words of publishable, coherent, emotionally precise reflection.
Just been to see Hard Boiled at @princecharlescinema.com Excellent stuff.
In John Woo movies, people throw themselves through windows for want of something to do.
They're going to write books about all the big brain moves of this gang of imbeciles and among them will be "Spending a year trying to kill renewable energy and then launching a war that sends oil prices soaring"
The Hamsterverse hits its half million downloads! Five years; commentaries, Strictly’s, Book Clubs, Patreon, X-Files, friendship, laughter, madness, facts (occasionally), scandal, gossip, and a lot of people crossing paths and sharing their love. It’s been a huge adventure. Thanks for pressing play.

A most enjoyable listen!
Very much enjoyed this look the wider Alien-verse.
I like how this behind-the-scenes recording of Duel of the Fates offers a much more interesting mix of the music where you can much more clearly hear the hammers and bells, and the heart-pounding of the string section.
That room must've sounded like it was filled with thunder.

This is one of my favourite lunches that @henrymance.ft.com has done, and yes, that's a big claim. When I add that we decided you all earned it this week becuase you've tried so hard in difficult circumstances, you should feel very proud. as.ft.com/r/a30e9e3c-3...

I really enjoyed it in the cinema, chiefly because of a) it understood where the horror was in Alien, and b) David Jonsson’s performance.
On reflection I can see a) is down to how much it borrowed from the first two films, but hey, lots of the prequels/sequels have borrowed the wrong bits!
According to the original run of stories, it’s just kill and breed; the horror is partly down to humans becoming prey in the life cycle of an alien being.
In the Ridley Scott prequels, it’s much more complicated and much more annoying.
I haven't even seen all the Alien movies, so learning about Alien spinoffs on @toohot4tv.bsky.social with @michaelmills.bsky.social was quite eye-opening!
A very strong start for the new podcast!
But also, what do the Aliens WANT? Or are they really just animals who eat & breed?
I don’t believe that’s a canopy; I think it’s a flap that opens to allow the vertical fan to work when it’s hovering.
What happens when four innocent bookclubbers are trapped with the pages of a torture zone with no hope of escape...? And what will the people of Hamster think?
Happy Belated World Book Day!

This perfectly illustrates my point that the British tabloids are aiming at a US audience. There like 5 people in the UK who think about this. But it is huge among US evangelicals.
British politicians need to ignore UK tabloids, as UK tabloids are talking to an audience in the US for clicks.
