Now, with New York set to begin this transition, our worst fears are coming true."
"Yet Governor Hochul and PPL insist on barreling forward on a timeline that is destined to knock tens of thousands of older and disabled New Yorkrs and home care workers out of the program. At a time when we fear tremendous Medicaid cuts from the federal government, our state government should be shoring up and supporting home care, not destabilizing and decimating this essential service."
Today, NY’s home care consumers and workers who use CDPAP will begin the transition to a single home care Fiscal Intermediary (FI), when phone lines open to move care over to PPL, an out-of-state private-equity backed for-profit corporation... The move could put tens of thousands of home care workers out of work, while leaving tens of thousands of consumers stranded without care.
Days before the transition is set to begin, it is clear PPL does not have any of the infrastructure or capacity needed to ensure the move will go smoothly— Insufficient Staffing, lack of accessibility, insufficient time to transfer data, ineffective transition plan. Jose is a friend and fellow advocate, but even if he wasn't I would still fight for his right to live independently in his community, work, and raise his family. Governor Hochul wants to pawn off a model designed by the Disabled community to a Single Out-of-State For-Profit.
I have said repeatedly that homecare growth must be looked at in context of usage in all model. Thank you Jessica.
