Delighted to tour the gorgeous Tyrone Guthrie Centre for artists’ residencies, Annaghmakerrig as part of the Irish Museums Association annual conference - sunshine and scones made for a heady combination!

Very much enjoying the annual Irish Museums Association conference in Monaghan this year, and especially ending Day 1 in this rather spectacular pub

Joyce Carol Oates @JoyceCarolOates
how is it possible to cram so much
ignorance--"English-Scott-Irish origin" -- into such a small space?
miracle of a person said to be "world's richest man" has no more grasp of US history than a crumpled paper tissue underfoot in a men's restroom not recently cleaned.

Great post. I missed that Elon cited the Irish as part of our heritage. For decades, nativists insisted that the Irish were papist thugs who were ruining America. That idea is so thoroughly buried that in 30 days, people with ancestry from all over will be wearing shirts saying β€œkiss me, I’m Irish.”

American culture of the 1840’s would have been *very fucking surprised* to see the Irish considered as co-founders.

Elon’s an ahistorical dipshit, but its always worth saying some stuff out loud: if youβ€˜re a fellow Irish-American and you aren’t 100% pro-immigrant, you’re a fucking embarassment.

This whole thread. On how ICE and DHS are ignoring orders to release ppl, moving them to Texas to get favorable judges, and holding themβ€”including young childrenβ€”in absolutely inhumane conditions.

It’s so clear that neither ICE nor DHS are compatible w the rule of law and must be dismantled.

When the world otherwise feels like it’s falling to pieces - taking small joys where I can. Smell of fresh bread baking while the rain falls outside; making breakfast crepes for a gaggle of teenagers still drowsy from their sleepover; coffee and the paper for me; Sam Cooke on the wireless.

Never mind the jobs you had, tell me five classes you took in college.

1. Italian Renaissance Literature in Translation
2. Neuroscience and Neurobiology
3. Introduction to Jazz (with David Baker)
4. Californian Mission-style Architecture
5. Sex and Sexuality in Classical Art

The government’s suggestion that rolling out 20 minute courses on writing β€œAIβ€œ prompts, sponsored by Google, Microsoft and Amazon, is somehow comparable to the founding of the Open University (the Wilson governmentβ€˜s, & Jennie Lee’s, proudest achievement), is an insult to our human intelligence.
