I’d say probably not, since the bulk of your work isn’t developing. Doesn’t mean you don’t DO development, but it’s not really your β€œrole” anymore.

I wish I had known about this event happening prior to today, as I would have loved to attend!

An icon for Ko-Fi would be a nice addition to complement Patreon

I suppose my fellow engineers using strong tags instead of divs is a step up, though if they’re already adding a tag, it’s REALLY not a stretch to just use a heading 😐

Thanks, I hate it.

I was also thinking of border-image when I watched the video, and despite @css-only.dev’s article, it just fails to fully click for some reason

2025. I’ve been building websites for over 25 years! I’m an optimistic type, yet I can’t help but feel uninspired in the popular direction of our field in this moment. There's still meaningful work to do here to be sure, but the driving trend to automate every creative step has become rather... sad.

Beautiful. Magnificent. Amazing.

I feel similarly about AI (and frameworks) and it gives me pause going down that road if it’s just going to lead to more work fighting the code.

I used frameworks way back in the day (Bootstrap v1) to get going and understand layouts, but generally now they can seem like a hindrance.

Watched this earlier today and was like, β€œβ€¦ oh yeeeeeaaaah… that’s still an option” πŸ˜…

I know I've seen a few people like @kevinpowell.co cover this in videos, but I don't remember whether it's fully explained *why* it works that way.

Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy pineapple on pizza, but that’s certainly not EVERYONE’s preference. Forcing that as a required field instead is just a silly reaction of, β€œThere! I changed it! Are you happy?”

Also, I wanted to say I first came across your writing via the article β€œThe Internet According to Me”, and while multiple items resonated with me (Neopets, Oregon Trail, etc), it was the DARPA Chief reference that I loved, because I’m the same way πŸ˜† my brain went, β€œHe gets it. We should be friends.”

I think it’s been close to a decade that I’ve told my family not to buy me things, because I prefer experiences and time with people over material items. Doesn’t stop them from asking, even when they don’t have much money in the first place, but feel obligated to buy β€œstuff” for others.
