Excited to share our latest paper in Translational Psychiatry. In this study, we asked the question: "Can we predict depression from brain MRI imaging using deep-learning and machine-learning algorithms.
Thx @baptistecd.bsky.social for a great summary & to all collaborators for their contribution.

The genetic risk of depression is a stronger predictor of heart problems in women than men: new research Women with a higher genetic risk of depression are more likely to develop heart disease – even if they’ve never had a diagnosis of depression or other psychiatric disorders.

πŸ’” Did you know? Women's genetic risk for depression is linked to heart problems more strongly than in men. 🧠❀️ Find out more in our latest research article featured in The Conversation: theconversation.com/the-genetic-...

Women are understudied, underdiagnosed and undertreated for CVDs. Our study calls for more accurate CVD risk prediction and effective risk screening in women, especially young women, who have a high depression prevalence and are traditionally underestimated for CVD risks. β™₯οΈπŸ’™πŸ’œπŸ’šπŸ§‘πŸ’›πŸ©΅πŸ©·

πŸ’œ Main findings 3 πŸ’œ:
This sex difference was not explained by well-known risk factors, e.g. BMI and high cholesterol.

β™₯️ Main findings 1 β™₯️:
Using UK Biobank data, genetic risk of depression was associated with increased risk of atrial fibrillation, coronary artery disease and heart failure even in the absence of a depression diagnosis or psychiatric medication use. The same was not seen in men.
