I feel bad for people who think any LLM is conscious. It really is an indicator that they do not have real conversations with people, and probably are incapable of forming durable relationships. It’s sad, really.

Also: we should not give broken people this much power.

BRUSUELAS: At $125 per barrel, $4.25 per gallon of gasoline and 4% inflation, the U.S. economy β€œwill feel the pain quickly ..

β€œ.. a risk that .. will negate the fiscal tailwind we were expecting from the One Big Beautiful Bill ..”

Bunch of questions about OpenAI’s ability to stay independent. One analyst here suggests they run out of money in 18 months.

Bonus for citing as fact that Meta’s metaverse is a failed experiment.

Dear Russia,

Iran's fire is making oil prices spike.

Spiking oil prices makes economic problems for us, so we're making it easier for you to sell more oil.

In sum, Iranian military success against us reduces economic pressure on you.

Just, you know, FYI.

Sincerely,
The geniuses leading America

Thing that really gets my goat is the way people are eager to fund this bullshit but you need eleven layers of analysis and a ton of collateral if you want to open a small grocery store in a food desert.

Shutting an oil well isn’t like turning off a faucet.

It’s a huge engineering risk, difficult to reverse β€” and an indicator the Kuwaitis don’t see choke points improving anytime soon.

Wisdom from Jesse Jackson’s service yesterday: β€œYou don’t forgive because they deserve mercy. You forgive because you deserve peace. Forgiveness is an emancipation.”

Trump’s β€œWarflation” Has Just Begun If he were trying to increase prices on purpose, would he be doing anything differently?

Get ready for some "warflation": higher prices for oil, gas, food (lots of fertilizer passes through Hormuz), goods made with petrochemicals (umbrellas, shampoo, toys, etc.), and pretty much anything that needs to be transported anywhere.

23 year old Ruben Ray Martinez’s last words? β€œI’m sorry sir”.

ICE shot him 3 times and killed him.

Renee Good’s last words? β€œIt’s ok I’m not mad”.

Alex Pretti’s last words? β€œAre you ok?”

These are the people DHS calls domestic terrorists. Threats. Aggressors.

Abolish ICE

It's the middle of the night in Chicago. Reporters and electeds are trying to figure out why a US citizen was detained by CBP, why her phone was inside an ICE detention center tonight, and where she is now.

Also unclear what happened to the other five people she was detained with at O'Hare airport.

In many evangelical sects, Catholics (and Episcopalians, AME, etc.) are not considered Christians at all.

The asymmetry of the value placed on human life is so striking. Israel has a goal to recover 40-year-old remains; to do so, it invades a sovereign country, and the lives of 26 Lebanese are an afterthought. Their names not even worth printing in the New York Times.

When that Claude subscription goes from $200/mo. to $5000/mo. we're going to see some real soul searching, and a whole lot of Claude junkies in withdrawal scratching themselves.

I can't wait.

As someone who routinely mocks permabullish clickbait oil forecasts, I want to be exceptionally clear:

Crude WILL go to $200/bbl, en route higher, unless traffic through the Strait resumes.

Not clickbait, but rather brutal physics and necessary economic incentives.

Let’s talk about Graham Platner’s Big Lie, finally. In 2009, at the height of the Gulf War, the Marines barred him from active duty. Platner claims it was his forearm tattoos. But his one forbidden tattoo was the Nazi symbol on his chest. He knew - and he left the Marines rather than give it up. 1/
