There is no shortage of challenges facing our province & country in these turbulent times. I look forward to working with
Premier Hogan, Minister Parsons & cabinet to ensure the needs of workers are at the forefront of this government's agenda in the weeks & months to come. #CanLab
Excited to join CUPE-NL for their convention in Grand Falls-Windsor this week.
NLFL President McCormick brought a message of solidarity and hope - hope in the face of the many challenges that are placed in our way, because we know that that when workers are united - we are unstoppable.

May 5th is Red Dress Day, a Day of Awareness for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls and Two-Spirit People.
Today, we honor the victims, amplify awareness of this crisis, and demand government action to end the racialized and gendered violence targeting Indigenous peoples in Canada.
Incredible show of solidarity and strength today to celebrate International Workers Day in downtown St. Johnβs.
Solidarity now. Solidarity forever!

NLFL President Jessica McCormick is providing reaction to the provincial budget.
In many ways, this is a safe, pre election budget. While we are pleased to see the government has not gone down the path of austerity, it falls short of taking the bold action needed to meet the moment.
I asked an international human rights lawyer recently what red lines to watch for - he said, βwhen people start to disappear.β Wellβ¦https://www.nytimes.com/2025/03/26/us/ice-tufts-student-detained-rumeysa-ozturk.html?smid=nytcore-ios-share
Great visit to UA local 740 training facility in Mt. Pearl today.
Governments need to invest in our trade/training programs and facilities to ensure workers have the skills they need.
We just launched the Canadian Labour Congress - CongrΓ¨s du travail du Canada Workers Together campaign in St. Johnβs!

Workers deserve more than empty slogans and staged photo ops β they demand candidates who will deliver real, tangible solutions to improve their lives.
Workers demand better - they need and deserve bold action. We can't be in this together if workers are left to navigate these uncertain times without adequate support.
The Federal government must expand the suite of supports for workers to meet the moment.

Another day of chaos and uncertainty.
We cannot build a strong economy around such unpredictability.
We must continue to be united and work towards a more resilient, self reliant and stable future that puts workers first.

Let's be cautious and clear when we talk about internal trade. What some in the business lobby see as "barriers" are hard-fought for regulations and standards that protect workers' health and safety and good, union jobs here in Newfoundland and Labrador.
We support the NL government taking a thoughtful approach to dealing with internal trade policies and regulations, particularly as it relates to protecting local jobs and safety standards.

NLFL President Jessica McCormick is providing media reaction to the tariffs today.
βThis is an attack on working class people who are already struggling with the cost of living.
Our resolve will be tested, but our unity in the face of this attack will see us through.β
The days and weeks ahead will test our resolve, but our solidarity will be our greatest strength.
"The most important thing that we should be focused on right now is preparing for the inevitability of tariffs and making sure we have the right plans in placeβ

Excellent meeting today with Min. Stoodley on a wide range of issues including the threat of tariffs, immigration, labour market strategy, and training.
Through proper investment in our people we can build a more sustainable, equitable, fair, and prosperous future for all. @govnl.bsky.social
43 years ago, February 15, 1982, the Ocean Ranger disaster claimed the lives of all 84 crew members onboard.
Today, we honour their memory. We also renew our commitment to fight for workplace safety, ensuring no worker has to sacrifice their life for their livelihood.
βWorkers need β and deserve β a wage that reflects the true cost of living and allows them to thrive, not just try to survive.β

This is a great explainer on internal trade "barriers" and why we can't lose sight of the existential threat of 25% tariffs. We need an industrial strategy, support for local manufacturing and high-quality jobs, not further deregulation. #CanLab #CdnPoli #NLPoli
The threats wonβt stop, nor the uncertainty. The goalposts will continue to move.
We need to plan, support and defend affected workers, diversify, find alternate trade routes, strengthen public services, and increase our capacity.

Today I joined labour, business & policy leaders at the Canada-U.S. Economic Summit to talk about building a strong economy that protects Canadian jobs & industries.
I was proud to represent N.L. workers & share our vision for a resilient economy that puts workers first.
"Jessica McCormick wants the province to keep its foot on the gas.
The head of Newfoundland and Labradorβs Federation of Labour says government needs to bolster its economy and better support workers as we brace for more tariff uncertainty."

NLFL President Jessica McCormick provided reaction to the announced tariffs on CBC with Rosemary Barton.
Jessica spoke about the impact tariffs will have on our province's workers and communities and the need to respond quickly and strongly.
We reiterate our call for a strong, strategic, and united front that includes measures to protect workers, communities, industry, and our economy.

NLFL President Jessica McCormick was on Open Line today to talk about the impending tariffs, what they mean for the province, and what measures need to be put in place to protect workers and their families.

Took part in the Premierβs Roundtable on Trade today along with a diverse range of stakeholders labour, industry, and community organizations.
All agree that a strong, united, and strategic approach that protects workers and our province is required - no matter what happens.
And tomorrow it could be something different. The sands will always be shifting - the chaos is the point. We must stay united, prepare, and act accordingly when the US makes a move. #CanLab
Whatβs a tariff, anyway? A primer on what they are and how looming American tariffs can impact our province.
