Also I developed a set of rituals for when rejections of various scales come in so that at least I know I get some treats and how I will handle the horrible horrible rejection feelings. It truly sucks but structures and nice things can help!

I once saw a fiction writer say that their job was to collect rejections, because that’s the sign that you’re sending stuff out, which is the part of the process that you can control. That really stuck with me and helped me move through this exact paralysis!

I’m a dry town but there’s an Ottolenghi cauliflower cake in the oven that I spent an impractical amount of time on. And a non alcoholic cocktail with my name on it!

Manu it was this that really worked, I knew that my abjection re the passage of time would be visible to you 😂

I’ve uploaded all my tenure documents but now I’m staring at the screen too afraid to press submit. Taking suggestions on ways to break the impasse/adequately motivating rewards that I can use to get myself across the finish line!

Ok I saw Barbie and while it’s politically unhinged it was just so great to see something with a $150 mil budget that didn’t spend it on CGI? Like…rehearsal time! Choreography! Sets! Get Slash to do a guitar solo! Practical effects! Indigo Girls royalties! More of this pls culture industry

For the price of like one CGI laser, Slash could do a solo in every single film of the next decade. Who do we talk to about this.
