This appalling fat cat wants to shut the door on all my mature students, many of whom left school after GCSE and give up a lot to go to university. I can tell him that they’re the hungriest for education and far from being unable to graduate, they regularly get the highest grades. Hateful man.

Over 100 works of art being put up for auction by (cash strapped) Reform-run Kent County Council.

Kent Greens: "While the total financial value of the art is only around Β£35k, the historic and social value of the art, most of which depicts Kent, is far higher."

Given that libraries elsewhere are bursting at the seams with students, I suspect there are other ways of explaining why this is happening.

Knives and the City; Violence, Regulation, and Resistance in Medieval Urban Life The next in a series of online talks hosted by the KAS, with Jason Hulott, chief instructor at Canterbury Medieval Combat. Exploring knife violence during the 14th to 16th centuries in Europe, highlighting the dual roles of knives as practical tools and weapons of violence. It examines legislative efforts to curb knife crime, the emergence of fighting knives, and the rise of self-defence systems taught through martial manuscripts in response to societal unrest. We will cover reports from major english cities as well as his own research into murders and knife crime in medieval Canterbury. Jason Hulott is chief instructor at Canterbury Medieval Combat. With over 25 years of experience, He specialises in Japanese Iaijutsu and Kenjutsu, and for the past 10 years, been focused on European medieval combat, primarily the German tradition. His training spans military, judicial, self-defence, and sport systems, allowing him to teach a wide range of topics - including Bartitsu and WW1 trench fighting - always with context and practical weapon handling.

Our online zoom lecture Knives and the City; Violence, Regulation, and Resistance in Medieval Urban Life will be taking place tomorrow, Thursday 29th at 7pm.
