Its easy to feel like the progress is slowed when you spend 2 days doing bases. I guess I'm a bit aware that I've got a lot to finish in a month I'm away for a week!

Lucky I do hobbystreak and can look back to.a few days ago and see these dino riders progressing nicely!

I've been busy basecoating away a mix of the mortar teams and the rough riders.

I may have gotten a little distracted and highlighted up the majority of the mounts for the rough riders.

Im going to argue it was needed before basecoating the leather straps!

I find the slow grow, plus the hobbystreak really keeps the mojo, and paint, flowing.

Its a new month, so I've been busy assembling the next 250 points of guard for my new year project.

This month it's a hellhound, a unit of rough riders and a heavy weapon squad with mortars. Hopefully providing a nice combination of long and short ranged support.

That's why I'm currently challenging myself to do 250 points painted a month.

I buy 250 points, build 250 points, paint 250 points. Next month start again. No time to let the backlog build!

I start by painting the whole coild area in abyss blue from 2 thin coats. Then using watered down paints pulling towards the bottom of the coils, I use Calgar blue, then Temple guard blue, an old pot of ice blue, then mix in white, then pure white at the edge. Bars get abyss blue again the black

Spent the last two nights putting far too much effort into 60 points of rough riders.

There's no way a Catachan would ride a horse. You can't keep them alive on a death world!

They need a mount as ferocious as predatory as thier home planet. A giant Raptor.

Getting there. Haven't done it on any models in a minute, but I did a nice dirty wash on the treads. Need to go back and do it to a bunch of my Deathwatch and Guard models.

The Hades 9th has a new sentinel today, this one with plasma cannon and tactical rock.

Sentinels and basalisks aren't the heaviest guard vehicles, but it feels good having some armoured support for my infantry platoon.

My guard collection is starting to feel like an army!

Put the finishing touches to the basalisk for the Hades IX 3rd regiment. Though I may go back with transfers one day.

Adding the crew does a lot for this tank, a tiny little diorama on the back.

One more sentinel to go by the end of the month and I'm on target!

Putting down the camo pattern for the basalisk. Still needs one more layer of wild rider red before I can start on the troll slayer orange.

Always nice to see the camo come to life!

Put the finishing touches on the scout sentinel today. It was a very happy moment to out the kitbashed catachan crew inside.

I've also started on the basalisk. Blocking out the red and silver areas to get a feel for the model before starting the camo patterns.

More work on the sentinel. Bases are done for both, and sentinel 1 is almost finished.

Pretty much just the crewman, the little pack of gear and a few little details to finish it up. Maybe a highlight for the silver too.

This month the guard armyngets some armouredcsupport, with 2 sentinels and a Basalisk.

They are all constructed and undercoated, some sentinel 1 is getting painted to test the camo design. I think it's successfully obscuring the shape of it already!

30 catachan infantry and a 5 person command squad. Painted in a black and orange lava world scheme with red weapons.

Finished the last of the catachan infantry squad and command squad, so now the army is up to 250 points!

Should be enough infantry to make a good start to a guard army, next month I'll change to get some armour to support them!

Finished up the second squad of Catachans for the lava guard regiment.

Up to two squads complete now and a whopping 120 points of painted guard!

Due to my mass batch painting though, the next 130 points should only be days from completion!

Still painting up that massive Catachan batch. I've had to split up the batch a little as i've got 2 different skin tones to paint synthetic Caucasian half are now done.

After that it's just eyes, then camo patterns on cloth and they're done!

More work on the Hades IX 3rd Regiment 1st infantry platoon.

All the basecoats are down so we're in highlight town! Orange vests are done and I'm starting on the red weapons next.

I love seeing these come together. The Lt is especially standing out with his bright armour!

Yeah kinda lookd like a predator turret up top? Rear gun looks like chaos land raider turret. Front gun I've got no idea.
