course schedule as a table. Available at the link in the post.
I'm teaching Statistical Rethinking again starting Jan 2026. This time with live lectures, divided into Beginner and Experienced sections. Will be a lot more work for me, but I hope much better for students.
I will record lectures & all will be found at this link: github.com/rmcelreath/s...
Thanks Gabby π
Our goal is to create a SDM tool for stakeholders to use when they are planning conservation and management actions. I am incredibly excited for this opportunity and to contribute applied conservation in CH! π²πΈππΈπ¦π
I will be working as a quantitative ecologist on a federal government funded project together with academia and stakeholder partners for the Swiss Biodiversity Action Plan.
Happy new year everyone, long time no post, but I came with some great personal news. π€©
I am happy to tell that as of Jan, I got a new joint position as Ecological Modeller at InfoFlora and as Postdoctoral Researcher at WSL@wsl-dme.bsky.social
We are recruiting several PhD students. If you are interested in conservation conflicts, population ecology, quantitative ecology, or biodiversity, check these projects out (links in the thread, feel free to reach out):
Happy to share our new study from my PhD on the spread of farming across Anatolia and into the Aegean and then into Europe. @compevohumang.bsky.social

π§¬In Neolithic ΓatalhΓΆyΓΌk, family was built on social relations rather than blood ties.
Genetic analysis shows that over time, co-residents were no longer genetic relatives. Female subadults were buried with 5x more grave goods.
πA surprising story of Neolithic social life.
Colossal Bioscience did not revive dire wolves, despite a sensationalist Time Magazine cover story.
Making genetically modified animals that are cosplaying as extinct species is not de-extinction.
This cover unfortunately reflects the orientalist bias numerous Western observers have against Turkey. If anything, the widespread protests of last week have shown that as much as the government might want to end Turkish democracy, people of Turkey are not willing to give up that easily.+

I have some PhD projects now available for application if you are interested in insect biodiversity change. Please check out the links below and shout if you have questions!
Our latest piece urges the conservation of Central Anatolian grasslands, which are heavily used and now threatened by afforestation. Often misperceived as degraded forests from millennia of human activity, these ecosystems deserve recognition and protection! www.cambridge.org/core/journal...
We are looking for contributors to our new series on the Methods Blog, exploring the experiences of ecologists conducting research in remote field stations during the holiday seasonπ Please get in touch if you would like to find out more! π π§ͺ
My MSc paper is getting lots of hits for the job I did tbh. Don't get me wrong, I think we did a great job, but I think its cited mostly b/c it covers a usually neglected area (Black Sea region, Caucasus, northern Iran). Another reminder that we need to expand the science out of global "northwest".
Wow! Amazing opportunity here for South Africa based πΏπ¦ researchers to develop their quantitative skills! π€©π»
Two workshops:
β’ An intro to stats in R
β’ Applied hierarchical modelling
The course is FREE! These opportunities rarely come about in πΏπ¦, so share widely & sign up!

Thank you so much to whoever put this very comprehensive list of #science Bsky starter packs together. This is just amazing: docs.google.com/document/d/1...
Excited to be sending the first batch of tags to new collaborators today! Let's see where these urban animals go.
