Inequitable policies make it unnecessarily hard for patients/clients to engage in self-management and get their health care needs met.
Learning about structural competency has been incredibly helpful for my work in clinic, research, education, supervision, etc. Understanding the role of policy is so important.

Executive wants to frame the NIH indirects cut as $4B in savings.
But given that NIH returns $2.5 on every $1 investment, this would actually cost US economy a net $6 BILLION (per year!). Not to mention the human costs of wrecking education and research sectors and the communities they serve.
Public service is a shining example community and continues to be a light. ❤️
Use your privilege during theses times of fear.
Can be huge and smaller.
Simple example: we noticed multiple places where new comers and immigrants go to eat and shop are understandably less busy this week.
Go there and support financially! Buy, eat, be in community.
Because “we the people” don’t get what goes into the service aspect of public servants. And I think that’s because the ivory towers have missed some opportunities…
I like to think in an alternate universe there’s a team of multidisciplinary, multinational, geographically, and economically diverse public servants to write some op-eds (&podcasts) across the country that are a love letter to community & really lets people know what we do in the name of community
This is real. I helped someone out at work, worked on my front yard, and practiced violin today. We have to take care of ourselves and each other.
Relatedly, I hope everyone is taking care of themselves & making choices to show up for themselves. It is hard. It will continue to be hard. You never have to do it alone. We do hard things w/ community & find joy. We hang in there. It doesn’t have to be pretty, but it has to get done. Proud of you❤️
And don’t let it be an integrated setting. You took care of your mental health AND improved your physical health?! That’s so impressive because it. is. HARD. and I know it’s hard and you probably had to overcome obstacles and make dedicated choices over and over?! But you did that. Ugh I love it!
There’s something about helping folks connect the dots to make lasting positive change to their mental health that makes my heart sing. Like you decided to work on yourself and you DID THAT! It’s truly an honor to be part of that process.

I’m passionate about improving the healthcare experiences and health outcomes of ALL veterans. And I’m incredibly grateful to work with veterans & to teach others how to better engage with folks who’ve served.
I’m also interested in implementation science and equitable implementation. I’ve learned that in health and rehabilitation psychology, a lot of folks get left behind and I’m working to change that!
My clinical interests focus on integrated care settings. I love an interdisciplinary team in a behavioral medicine setting. Primary care and spinal cord injury have been my favorite interdisciplinary settings to date.
