Mostly, I started out by having it describe optimizations for existing work I'd done, then I'd let it implement. Eventually I used it to fill in the gaps for my unit testing and finding edge cases.

Now it writes complete classes with unit tests in a few minutes, saving me hours.

I agree. I didn't like using AI for coding before, mostly because it felt like it hardly got anything right, even if it could explain the intent perfectly, so I needed to fix it all or hand code anyway.
