My last four films watched:
Ballerina - 3 stars
Winter Kills - 3 1/2 stars
Torque - 4 stars
New Love in Tokyo - 4 stars
A chaotic viewing run ends with a very kinky bow in this week's #LetterboxdFriday #Last4Watched. Yes, I did watch Ballerina again. Yes, I'm totally serious about Torque being 4 stars. No, I will not be taking questions.

Not to be a killjoy, but that's not real and ABSOLUTELY would not work. No Tesla can use the charging port while moving.

Modeling is not feeling or expressing. It's emulating.
Its moments like this that remind me that sentience is not required for the apocalypse. LLMs could just accidentally Mad Lib their way into a "Whoopsie Skynet" moment.

There's a really good fanedit out there called 'Legion' that makes a real effort to reconstruct Blatty's original vision. It's not perfect, but it's surprisingly good and is now my preferred version of the film.

Looks like PC World has disavowed the original source and the reporting overall. Not saying this WON'T happen, but this article is pure clickbait and not based on any actual reporting.

This week's #LetterboxdFriday #Last4Watched has a theme, and that theme is getting ready for next week's podcast. But what unmade movie will we be dicussing? Any guesses?

I share the same concern. As somebody who loved most of the series and the Rebuild films, Anno put a clear period at the end of the sentence in 2021. I just wish that franchise holders didn't always see the need to milk IP to death.

Oh, yeah. Eva is PROFOUNDLY self-indulgent. It's kinda Anno's psychological autobiography. Freaks like me who love it consider that a feature, not a bug.
FWIW, the last Eva movie came out in 2021 and was (by 2x+) the biggest hit in franchise history, so the audience is there and growing.

This is what Anno wanted. Having said that, I don't envy any of them when it comes to fan response. Evangelion fandom makes Star Wars fandom look well-regulated.

The abyss 1989 /aspect ratio comparison widescreen vs fullscreen dvd/ 18
YouTube video by Swat Littlerock
I think the definitive version of The Abyss in the SD era was honestly probably the full screen 4:3 version that Cameron personally supervised on a shot-by-shot basis, opening up the Super 35 image and reframing.
Here's a decent side by side:

As someone who prefers Crockett, this take is disgusting. It's Trumpist guilt by association. The problem IS NOT how religious someone is, it's how seriously they take the Establishment Clause. Attacks on Crockett or Tatarico over their personal religious beliefs is unacceptable. Do better.

Both films have some really interesting, nuanced examination of POC in the larger media landscape, although Nope is a much broader condemnation. I think Sinners might be more successful on its own terms, but they're both pretty great.

Series of pictures from Deep Space Nine showing the Klingon Kor greeting the Trill Dad, who had moved from a male to a female host since Kor last saw them. Kor quickly adjusts their pronouns and moves on.
The images end with the tag Cis allies: Be like Kor.
If Klingons have trans rights, maybe we can too. Qapla, my sexy bitches.

in 2017 a popular twitter game was to type a partial phrase then see what your phone auto-completes it with.
this proved so popular that it is now the only business model in the US.

A hidden correlary to this chart is that US defence spending in to a meaningful extent the economic engine that drives the entire world's economy. Not saying that's good thing (it almost certainly isn't) but it is a thing.

Please read this nuanced essay on "AI" by the great John Scalzi. I particularly agree with his often overlooked point about the deeply unethical way LLMs have been trained. This was a CHOICE, and the "move fast and break things" approach that was taken throws the whole enterprise into question.

Great piece on @aftermath.site about resistance media. I think it's funny that One Battle After Another was more or less accidentally a film that captures the moment, but Sensei shows us the way.

My take on the ending [SPOILERS?] was that you can be completely right and still totally wrong.
Also Yorgos is contractually obliged to do his production design thing.
But mostly the first thing.

100% - It's not about trusting the nice people currently in charge of your data. It's about trusting the worst common denominator in the whole system. And the system isn't their fancy zero-trust IT stack - it's late-stage capitalism. So... Yeah.
