How HHS Impacts Our Health, Our Economy, And Our Security
The work of the Department of Health and Human Services affects every American in many ways. Overview of the organization, its services, and why that work matters.
In a new column on Forbes.com, I point out that discussions about health funding, policy, and agency leadership aren’t just political debates happening in Washington. It’s not an exaggeration to say that decisions made HHS leaders touch us all.

At this troubled time in America, we must strive to find agreement between disparate groups. Things like we want our kids to be healthy and no one wants to see the chiefs in the Super Bowl. For once, @meganranney.bsky.social and I will be rooting for the same team on Sunday.

The choice to be healthy in America is one that is not distributed equally. It's a luxury item. No different than a Mercedes or mansion. And that needs to be fixed.

If food is important (which it is), the question shouldn’t be how do we get a health insurer to pay for it? It’s how do we make food more available for everyone who needs it?

Yes. Even if not pre-existing, if it develops as a new condition it should be covered like any chronic disease.

Obesity - Symptoms and causes
Smoking is also not classified as a disease. Obesity is: www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-con.... Can’t define it as a disease and then increase insurance rates for treating it. That doesn’t really track.

Forbes
Forbes is a global media company, focusing on business, investing, technology, entrepreneurship, leadership, and lifestyle.
Declining deaths from drug overdoses is encouraging, but it’s far too soon to declare victory. Death is just one endpoint. Addiction continues to devastate families, communities, and lives. My new column on Forbes.com on explains why cautious optimism is the best approach.

Physician Poll: Medical Misinformation is Harming Patients
Nearly 3 in 4 physicians said medical misinformation has hindered their ability to treat COVID-19 patients and has harmed patient outcomes.
Note: 920k+ doctors in the U.S. advocate vaccines because they save lives. With ~1 million licensed physicians nationwide, the anti-vaxxer minority is just that - a fringe. They bristle at the term, but reality is stubborn. They're outliers, no matter their claims. 2/2 @brianccastrucci.bsky.social

It's just more misinformation after misinformation. The problem is that there are people out there who believe it and make decisions based on it.

RFK Jr. Blames Anti-Depressants for School Shootings
RFK Jr. spews conspiracy theories about 'ethnic bioweapons' and big pharma causing school shootings.
Listened to the whole excruciating two and a half hours of RFK Jr’s Twitter Space with Elon Musk. He said lots of bad shit but this definitely took the cake!

What’s darkly funny is that even if they wanted to, the NIH couldn’t research this question not because of the pharmaceutical industry but because of the gun industry

My first Bluesky post to say that people cannot legitimately be supporting RFK Jr for President. RFK Jr is at least partly responsible for >80 child deaths in the Samoan measles outbreak and is a prolific disseminator of vaccine misinformation. We need to go forward not backward.
