I've just heard that Country Joe McDonald has passed away.
This blew me away the first time I heard it, a pivotal discovery for me when I was getting into psychedelic sounds as a teenager.
Rest in peace.

Still went occasionally when I was visiting - my stepdad was a regular, though.
Indeed. Then a walk down to St Mary's Street for a rummage at Weasel's Records. Happy days.
Love it. I used to have one of these Panasonic beauties. To think they could be easily picked up in a charity shop at one time...

I bought this Sub Pop label sampler in 1988. Discovered some interesting bands. Started ordering lots of imports from Virgin in Southampton.
One lot called Nirvana, I had to wait two weeks for their first LP to arrive...

I remember my stepdad telling me he saw her supporting the Stones in Bournemouth in 1965, and she came out and chatted to him and his mates for ages after the show. Lovely lady by all accounts.
My late stepdad would have been deeply envious of the Twinkle EP π
Whilst it's been great travelling around Dorset this week, meeting interesting new people, one of them has given me a particularly vile case of the lurgy and put the kibosh on my weekend. I shall have to take to the chaise-longue with the laudanum, I fear.

First #BeachBoys LP I got, aged 10. I was hooked.
Sent me down a rabbit hole of rarities, obscurities, and the murky world of bootlegs - I've never returned.
Still the best intro to their classic Capitol period, I reckon. Some choice album tracks in there.

That EMI series of TV advertised albums had some corkers, the EMTV series...
Getting 20 hits on one LP was brilliant then, mostly pretty good mastering, considering how much was crammed onto them.
Indeed - bit choppy on here this morning...
New route to work - waiting for the ferry...
The last of this week's #WeekendSingles finds, plus a couple I picked up a while ago but got misplaced in the move:
Françoise Hardy, The Fascinations, Georgie Fame and The Newbeats

Indeed - here with She Trinity, on the left. π
Quite a story - more at blog.musoscribe.com/index.php/20...
More #WeekendSingles swag: Rufus Thomas, Chicken Shack (when Christine McVie was still Christine Perfect), Lovin' Spoonful (already had a copy, but not on US Kama Sutra) and She Trinity (fun fact: their bass player, Pauline Moran went on to play The Woman In Black!)
#MusicSky #VinylSky
Next up from my #WeekendSingles swag bag: two gorgeous Immediate releases from #PPArnold and #ChrisFarlowe and two I've wanted for ages, #TradeWinds brilliant 1965 Beach Boys knock-off (US Red Bird!!!) and a cracking #Searchers flop from 1967, when they couldn't get arrested.

Sunny (if breezy) in Dorset.
I remember when New Fast Automatic Daffodils were hotly tipped as the next big thing. Never quite worked out for them.
First from my #WeekendSingles swag this week: Couple of Derams, couple of Polydors
#TheMove (massive upgrade on my existing copy), #Cream, #FrijidPink, and a weird #BeeGees number, even by their late 60's standards

Wow, it's warm enough for the beach! Enjoy it while it lasts!

Just visited a fantastic store in Moordown, if any of you #WeekendSingles types are visiting Dorset: Rocket Records.
Top Tip: the convenience store over the road sells amazing vegetable samosas.
Delighted to say that my singles drought well and truly ended today.
I'll reveal all at the next #WeekendSingles...
My old home patch, until I defected over the border to Dorset π
Yes, hoping to head back over and see it. Looks good.
Tyrell & Green's department store used to be on the site of the gallery. Got my first computer from there...
Remember that time when it looked like #Mansun might be massive?
Remember when 7-inch singles were 99p in HMV?!?

I know it's not #AlbumAlmanac week but it's tipping it down in Dorset, so it's definitely a day for battening down the hatches and putting #Lush on. And since Gala compiles the early singles, I'll plead for leniency.

I've heard it was a pseudonym for Throbbing Gristle but I can't confirm that rumour...
But seriously, folks - a lot of those Transacord records are collectable now, very desirable to train enthusiasts.
Peter once offered to buy my wife a drink. She politely declined. She didn't realise he was in a band, until he took the stage with his Test Tube Babies a bit later...
(We'd not met at this point)
Nothing's landed in the local chazzas this week, so here's four corkers from the vaults, from 1964-65: The Searchers, The Mamas & The Papas, Sam The Sham & The Pharaohs and possibly The Beach Boys' most underrated release.

Our season of "only watching them on the actual date" continues, with the "but where is Jason?!?" entry in the franchise...
