Among the many things that disturb one about German politics is how narrow & selective the population is that Germany assumes it needs โforgivenessโ from (as well as how coercively-conditionally the state seeks its exoneration and impunity, which ironically tells on how little has actually changed)
โWhat Germany is saying now is actually that Germany worked through its past, and now Germany can go back to business as usual... We were punished by the Allies, but now itโs over, we are good again, because the Jews forgave us.โ And the Jews, for them, thatโs Israel.โ www.jta.org/2026/03/04/g...
Feels like high time for a more conscious and collective critical East-European awakening/uprising in so many aspects of politics, thinking and life, and far beyond the level of governments that many of us have already opposed for years now
The equation between protecting lives in โthe East-European buffer zoneโ and annihilating them in the Middle Eastern kill zone certainly makes some Western values explicit, including the context into which several of the โalliesโ immediately offered to send their armies to โhelp.โ Message received.
Londoners!
There's still time to make plans to come to Aziza Kadyri's talk tonight at SSEES.
Aziza is an artist known for her beautiful, emotive rendering of identities, fragmented past and second-hand nostalgia. She's a tireless archivist of diasporic embodied knowledge, memories and feelings. <3
Inspiring. Seseg gave a very sincere, vulnerable and touching talk at our last @associationruta.bsky.social conference in Ukraine and I encourage everyone to see her illustrations. She has a book coming up on Buryat struggles under Russian colonialism and her own journey after forced Russification
What an interesting exhibition on anti-nuclear solidarities: The historical Nevada-Semey anti-nuclear movement sought to undo precisely this obscuring by uniting affected communities from Kazakhstan and the United States, successfully ending Soviet nuclear testing in 1989
Calling Central Asianists! CFP for the conference โSoviet Central Asia as a Totalitarian Testing Groundโ in Warsaw, 15-17 June, is now open. Some travel funding available.
Wellโฆweโre raising those issues and telling the US left to take them up if they want to do genuinely antioppressive politics, as thatโs their own responsibility. What weโre doing here with my Turkmen Qazaq coauthor is furthering epistemic reparations for our leading liberation thinkers and movements
We are trying to address some of the issues stemming from โdissonantโ legacies of racialization and colonial oppression in our latest text with Selbi Durdiyeva On Collateral Damage, Selective Anti-Imperialism and the Path to Liberation

@tnflorvil.bsky.social I was thinking that maybe this text linked above could be of interest. Also notifying @vethompson.bsky.social, the paper you heard me present at the conference on Angela Davisโs philosophy in Bergen is out now. Thanks for the questions and discussion on those complex issues

The critical discussions we need to haveโฆ Such as about the eulogy to Stalin by W.E.B. Du Bois, whose work is crucial to critical race and decolonial scholarship, yet, this selective decoloniality does grave injustice to the liberation struggles of Central & Northern Asia, & Europeโs East
OTD in 1940, as part of "protecting them from fascism", Stalin signed the order to murder 22,000 Polish officers in Katyn. Like our recent crimes, we blamed nazis. This is Stalin writing "approved" on their death warrant.
Imagine crimes against humanity on this scale today..

This was a very, very interesting The RUTA Association webinar. I learned a lot and ordered these two books for the Helsinki University library. Can't wait to read them. Highly, highly recommended www.youtube.com/watch?v=j_85...
โYanarโs legacy will be remembered and live on not only through all the women and girls that she helped, but also all the activists she inspired and trainedโ

Just saw Tanya Tagaq at Berghain, years after her great gig at Dark Mofo in Tasmania. Hereโs to the power of womenโs throat singing and a total commitment to embracing the demonic weird, all while explaining where the exits are for anyone who might be bothered by it ๐ฅ ๐

This was such an important discussion and I cannot recommend these books enough! Itโs particularly vital to read them together. Do prompt your libraries to order them, they are incredible sources for teaching and further research on justice, history, philosophy, art, literature, culturesโฆ
Here is a recording of our last RUTA webinar. The discussion revolved around new paradigm shifting books by @magdamatache.bsky.social & @madelinepotter.bsky.social, who revisit Romani histories, rethink how theyโre theorised with and envision the path to racial justice

I just attended a panel with Natali at Cafe Kyiv, where she emphasised the active participation of the Romani people in Ukrainian defence and emphasised the need for the state and institution to recognise the crucial socio-political role of the Roma in the Ukrainian society

According to Tomenko, the current war on Ukraine is revealing a deeper historical parallel. The Roma families, who survived the German Nazi occupation and genocide, are now facing a 2nd war in their lifetime, with many Roma fighting in Ukraineโs defense against the ongoing genocidal Russian invasion
Very bad news
And to think that until now some of us were so blessed not knowing of the existence of this guyโฆ
