Yea, sure, there's shitty people within the kink community, as literally EVERYWHERE ELSE. But these people don't represent our community. The same way a shitty person from outside the US doesn't represent their entire country or a shitty religious leader don't represent religion as a whole.
Because there are people who engage in practices like this one (and others also mentioned in these videos) CONSENSUALLY and all you're doing is adding into the stigma people within the kink community already face enough of.
And just bc you don't understand something, doesn't make it wrong.
Yes, sure, she's referring to people who were more than likely coerced into doing this but when you talk about such things you need to be more mindful with your words.
At some point she mentions that these people were "forcing sexual assault victims to receate their sexual assaults to overcome the trauma", and I wonder if she's considered that that's an actual valid way to really overcome the trauma of being sexually assaulted? (When done consensually, ofc)
And yes, these people are criminals who used sexual liberation and kink practices to assault their "followers", I'm not denying that nor defending it. My issue here is why not add the same disclaimer you add with international/religion-related cases?
She will have a similar disclaimer whenever talking about religious cults.
Last couple of videos cover a sex cult case, and she describes some (consensual) kink practices in a not-so-respectful way. She never really uses the word "kink" or anything but still, you know.
What pisses me off the most is that whenever she covers a case that didn't happen in the US, she'll always say a disclaimer about how the people and events in the video do not speak about the people from that country/culture which is GREAT.
Some consensual, some not. But the way that she's described them (regardless of whether they were consensual or not) has been full of judgement. And I know this because she's been making the same remarks/comments as with other, truly disturbing/harmful things.
For context: there's this true crime podcast/YouTube channel I really enjoy. I know this is a touchy subject for some, but I do think this woman tells these stories and cases in a very respectful way.
