Cover of the book why fish don't exist by lulu miller
Finally got around to reading Why Fish Don't Exist.
It was great!
Wow I just found a 15 min video on my computer where i roast my code and walk through my refactor. Honestly, my refactor isn't that great in retrospect.
Should i post it on youtube???
It's funny looking back but i showed this clip to so many people in real life. π
Do you like these things:
Cyberpunk (aesthetics),
Bees,
Escaping your past,
Average at best writing,
The act of emotionally moving on,
Cyberpunk (the other stuff we don't talk about)
Stories with a beginning, middle and ending.

Feeling Lazy, please wishlist my game. I worked very hard on it.
(I also burnt out and didn't work on it for a year (whoops))
I found some footage of old itch builds. This was the environment we used for testing. The slums were vertically down a pit. I liked the idea of them being directly under the city. Yes, yes, "I know writers who use subtext and they're all cowards".
Going back though old development footage is fun. I actually went and took a few weeks to learn Blender (i was and am still very bad at it).
You can see how we also used to show the character sitting next to you in the cab. This got scrapped as we couldn't ever really make the perspective work.
The updated trailer is on Steam. The wishlist button is there as well.

I found the first little teaser trailer I made for Neon Express back when I was still making itch builds. It makes it feel like some sort of serious action game π
I hope to release soon! Check it out on Steam!

More Neon Express throwbacks!
Here is the first time I got the terminal hooked up to the delivery system. I was very excited!
The year is 2035. There are three game studios left. Each one produces a game every 10 years, killing 250+ developers in the process. They all accidentally make the same game because they used genAI in preproduction. They sell 500 million units each, missing quarterly targets. Everyone is laid off.
Another Neon Express throwback. This was the first time i thought the game might have legs. Flying between the skyscrapers felt so cool even in this little test enviroment.
Just wanted to comment and say that I actually did that deverlopers Godot course on Udemy and it was really good.
Wishlist if you dare

a worried man in the back seat, 15000 bees in the cardboard box next to me. the words "waste disposal unit" hover ominously above.
Sum up your video game in one screenshot
I've spoken before about dropped mechanics in Neon Express. Originally, I wanted to be able to land anywhere and exit the vehicle. I spent no joke 2 weeks working on this. I had to implement a custom PID solution to ensure I could land on non-flat planes.
I completely scrapped this mechanic.
Here is a throwback to late 2023 when i was messing with the idea for Neon Express. I had just got the delivery system working!
Look how far its come π

One night at like 2am I had a lot of fun adding these newsreel messages in the top of the cab. I wrote them all so long ago that i've forgotten most of them.
Mostly its just set dressing, some of it is relevant to the story. All of them are very silly.
It felt like I had two brain cells (in total) slapping together to have a cohesive thought.
I'm not an amazing programmer but at work yesterday I realised I needed to refactor and use polymorphism so I could determine which derived class I was using at runtime.
Today in a technical interview I flopped on the implementation of essentially
bool IsEven(std::vector<int>);
