They do that in Australia! When I worked there everyone was very selective about who to put on a paper because the papers were divided by the number of authors.

First, it's not about saving the earth. This ball of rock will be orbiting the sun long after we're gone. It's about saving all of us living things that call it home.
Second, there is no such deadline. What the science says is very clear:
