I enjoyed another visit to the Scotch Malt Whisky Society bar in Glasgow on Saturday
Slàinte!
Is it too late for Starmer's Labour to recover progressive voters? If Labour in Scotland is anything to go by, they've never recovered from losing to the SNP in 2007 and joining with the Tories in Better Together for the 2014 referendum.
That's really good!
Sausage supper, or haggis? Great stuff!

We really enjoyed The Shepherd and the Bear, an intimate portrait of a way of life that is disappearing with colourful characters and some stunning mountain scenery in the Pyrenees.

Keir Starmer has described Iran's retaliation as 'outrageous.' This is the same Keir Starmer who declared the Green Party 'extremist' last week. "We should be able to kill muslims without any retaliation," he may have added.

I've not read anything by Albert Camus before, but there's a film adaptation of The Stranger coming out next month, so I wanted to read the book before seeing the film.
Fans of The Cure will know that their 1978 debut single, Killing about Arab, referenced the book.
A large Kilner jar packed with Few Flowered Leek leaves with garlic, chilli and ginger added.
#FoodSky #Foraging #Fermenting
With the depressing, worrying news from the Middle East and Afghanistan, it was almost therapeutic to pack about a kilo of Few Flowered Leek leaves to leave to ferment for a week or two or three.
I picked the leaves yesterday, prepared and left them overnight .
And in other news, Pakistan and Afghanistan are fighting too

This is not the sort of news you want to wake up to

Labour's Scottish election campaign conference. A few dozen people in a mostly empty auditorium.
A picture paints a thousand words, Labour's Scottish campaign conference is a picture of a demoralised and defeated party. Hold your nose and vote Labour is not the winning slogan Anas Sarwar hopes it is. It's the last desperate plea from a dying party. Westminster rule in Scotland dies with Labour.
Really good film, stunning soundtrack

A favourite band of ours is putting out their second album.

A new politics of hope was born this morning. We do not need to be the cruel nation that Badenoch, Starmer and Farage want. @zackpolanski.bsky.social and the Green Party have shown us we have a choice.
Well played, sir, well played 👌😁
The Greens get their fifth MP in another blow to Starmer's Labour as Reform blame 'woke progressives' for their loss, not their own divisive, hate-filled messages.
Front cover of The Challenges of Democracy and the Rule of Law, by Jonathan Sumption.
#BookSky 💙 📚
Sumption writes well about the lack of trust that damages democracy, but I disagree with him on voting systems (we should ditch FPTP), & what he says about "the misuse of history" on decolonialisation.
Other chapters are well worth reading, eg, on Hong Kong, Israel & Gaza.
😁
Thank you. That's my name, so, of course.
I think its overrated. Benicio Del Toro is really good and the car chase is as good as I've seen for a long time. But there just isn't a strong enough plot to hold the film up, it kind of collapses under its own weight.

Mona Fastvild & Brady Corbet wrote The Brutalist & have now written The Testament of Ann Lee, directed by Fastvild. Lee was a messianic figure who founded the Shakers, a Christian sect known for ecstatic worship.
Mesmerising choreography & superb soundtrack

A thought provoking article in the aftermath of the arrest of Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor and the statement from the King.

The 2018 tournament was a decent experience for fans, apparently. Will Putin's Russia be better than 47's US for fans?

The 6th book in @radiomukhers.bsky.social crime thriller series set in 1920s Calcutta, The Burning Grounds, is another excellent page turner.
Sam is getting even more cynical and Suren, after his sojourn in Europe, is more convinced about the cause of independence for India.

When you play one Iggy Pop album (ok, yes, I know, it was by 'Iggy & The Stooges'), you have to play another.
Now enjoying another classic collaboration with David Bowie, Lust For Life from 1977.

I endured a poor game of football and saw @airdrieoniansfc.bsky.social fall weakly to yet another defeat in what is becoming a dreadful season.
At least my way home took me via the Scotch Malt Whisky Society bar in Glasgow.
A peaty, sherried Caol Ila to cheer me up.
