I love visiting our partnership schools! Brilliant young people, fab school-based colleagues.

It's a real privilege to feel like an extension to the department in so many places in our region.

There were so many more brilliant questions about climate and the current global situation that we didn't get to.

Thank you to everyone who attended & the #teachers & students who asked questions. We had fun!

How do you define Empire in your work?
If America has an Empire, can Trump be considered an Emperor?
What do you forsee being the most likely reason the American Empire collapses (if you believe it is possible)?
To what extent do you think America also uses soft power to further imperial power? 7/

And now we turn to our panel discussion. Brilliant and tough questions have been submitted by our KS5 students and teachers. For example:
In your research do you start with the sources or the historiography?
How do you form historical Interpretations and manage academic disagreement? 6/

Our final provocation comes from Dr Joe Merton considering New York City as a node of American imperial power.

Students and teachers will now consider some questions from the speakers and have an opportunity to ask their own questions during our panel discussion. 5/

Now we hear a provocation from Assoc Prof Maria Ryan as she explores the American 'Empire' from the perspective of its overseas Military Bases and American power that it derives from these (harnessing the zeitgeist!) through the lense of considering the US as having a “Pointillist Empire”. 4/

Exam boards provide assessment criteria for national assessments at 16 (GCSEs) and 18 (A Level). Since the introduction of the 2014 National Curriculum, individual schools create their own assessment criteria for children at Key Stage 3 (ages 11-14).

👍 This is also the time of year when I circle back round to my looking after yourself (sleep/eating right/having some time for you) mantras - this even goes as far as sharing slowcooker recipes and reminding them on a weekend to batch cook something for lunches!

And just like that, we've hit the 'melancholy days of March'. This is the bit of #ITT year when things can start to feel a bit hopeless. Beginning #teachers who thought they'd really started to master their craft, suddenly find it suddenly isn't working now.

A fab final #ITT #historyteacher university based day of the week involving both #CakeyThursday & the brilliant @salwilson11.bsky.social who has come to provide the expert demonstration for #ITAP in creative pedagogical practices. @iandawson51.bsky.social is making lots of virtual appearances too!

So forgetful am I that, in the midst of teaching my #ITT beginning teachers today about the value of evaluation to focus on pupil learning, I totally forgot to share with them the fact I'd written this to support them and their mentors with this exact issue. 🤦🏻‍♀️

Due to living near the pool, swimming lessons outside of school/ being part of the swimming club is a really common extra-curricular hobby for children (supported by minimal travel costs).

Providing communities with sufficient services to reach all children & young people is so important. 3/3

The first & second place schools are both in walkable distance to the swimming pool. This means they don't have to pay for a bus & their children get more swimming lesson time across their primary schooling than most other schools. 2/3

My child's school just won the the local schools swimming gala. This is a fab achievement for the children and I'm delighted for them. It was, however, also a lesson in social inequality and the need for fair access to facilities in all communities. 1/3

Storyville - Mr Nobody Against Putin A Storyville documentary that follows a Russian schoolteacher as he risks everything to expose rising militarism in his classroom.

Strong recommendation to #historyteacher #HistoryEducation people to watch this on iPlayer. Storyville, Mr Nobody Against Putin: www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/m002kx2d

It reveals why the plurality of curricula & disciplinary integrity matters so much in history teaching, #ITT & for a free society.
