Iβm a bit confused about the labelling for Category 1 plants. How do you interpret this text?
Iβm sure people loved chatting to you, Rosh!
Iβm really grateful for the super collaboration with Vijay Tiwari at Uni of Maryland, and other collaborators at John Innes Centre in UK and the Bragato Research Institute in NZ. Iβm also super proud of my student, Guilherme Silva, who persisted with this difficult genetic study!
WUS-D1 is normally dormant in hexaploid wheat, but genome rearrangement activates expression, and this is accompanied by a boost in meristem size during early inflorescence development, including floret primordia.
Weβre excited to share this international collaborative research effort that characterises the genetic basis of multiovary wheat, which involves a remarkable genome rearrangement event that leads to high expression of WUS-D1.
WUSCHEL-D1 upregulation enahnaces grain number by inducing formation of multiovary-producing florets in wheat: doi.org/10.1073/pnas...
Our new study gives some insight into how Ppd-1 influences source:sink interactions in wheat by regulating an amino acid transporter doi.org/10.1093/aob/...
What is more of a compliment Having disguises added to your seminar announcement photo, or having a PCR machine named after you?

I thoroughly recommend this opportunity to all aspiring group leaders! My career benefited so much from working at JIC with many wonderful colleagues and friends - I always felt at home there and I learnt so much!

We invite researchers worldwide to join us in improving floral biology traits for hybrid wheat and call on funding agencies to support this global effort. Together, we can strengthen hybrid breeding capabilities and unlock wheatβs full yield potential

Our position paper highlights three priority research areas:
1οΈβ£ Floret structure β stigma presentation, longevity, and receptivity to airborne pollen
2οΈβ£ Pollen release dynamics β including anther extrusion and dehiscence
3οΈβ£ Environmental impacts β heat, drought, irradiation, and humidity effects

Hybrids harness heterosis to boost grain yields β a breeding success story for crops like maize and rice. π Unfortunately, wheat still lags behind due to the high costs of hybrid seed production. Research that improves cross-pollination in self-fertilising wheat florets is urgently needed

Through an exciting industryβacademic collaboration, our new Perspective sets the stage for the next phase of hybrid wheat research. πΎ We focus on floral biology traits that can increase cross-fertilisation in self-pollinating wheat β paving the way for more effective hybrid seed production.
Excited to see our work finally out! πΎπ΄ββ οΈ
We show how HvCLV1 and HvFCP1 shape barley inflorescence using innovative techniques and some cool microscopy.
Huge thanks to everyone involved in this study!

I'm recruiting a 3-yr postdoc for an ARC-funded project on the interaction between circadian rhythms and grain quality in wheat. #plantsci #circadian
We also have a fully-funded PhD position available.
See Job Ad about Postdoc, email me about the PhD.

Congratulations, Cristobal! A fantastic appointment!
Thanks for sharing, @alisonrbentley.bsky.social! Great to see you in the Champions League, Laura! I look forward to seeing the exciting research to come from your new lab!
Itβs always a bit sad when students leave the lab, but many congratulations to Luqman on (almost) finishing his PhD. Good luck for the next steps in the UK, itβs been fun!
Beautiful Brassicaceae fruit-shape diversity. And here we tell you (part of) how itβs done! rdcu.be/d3i8x
