It annoys me Americans see Kalen and think girl, even though it is a boy name. Just not a common American name. People who don't misgender me before seeing my name will after.

So, I'm leaning towards transphobia, which I didn't expect from the Teachers Insurance and Annuity Association of America.

Had to call TIAA to get into my retirement account today. Person kept calling me Miss after seeing my name.

I corrected them twice. They ignored it, kept calling me Miss.

My voice is 100-140 hz (well below fem tones), but I do sound gay 😘

Trying to decide if this was transphobia or homophobia 🙃

I have a clinical focus of working with queer folks and I have never ever suggested to someone that they might be any gender but whatever they are telling me.

That isn't a thing. Why do bigots insist it is?

Agreed, it’s morals. If you have a problem with a trans person who you don’t know or believe in problems that have never happened, you’re looking to punch down. You need a scapegoat. You’ve told me who you are with your ignorance and hatred. I’m not waiting to be next.

Our house in Iowa closed this morning. We have no physical ties left to the state.

Not the way I expected this chapter to end when we moved there in 2020 to study at UIowa and train at the LGBTQ Counseling Clinic.

Looking forward to continuing to make a safer home for our family in Colorado

I've been thinking about this lately, and I think it's important to remember this wasn't an unexpected response. It's one "news" has played out time and again against minorities.

We shouldn't forget that.

Media Matters analyzed a year of NYT coverage of anti-trans bills and found that 66% of the time the paper didn't quote a trans person. Further, it found that the paper often quoted right wing sources without mentioning their histories of anti-trans rhetoric.
So "right-wing rag" is pretty accurate.

The world and life is just a whole lot right now.
