So Baten Kaitos Origins has a party member who is literally male AND female, named Guillo. He/she even has both male and female voiceovers. I don’t even know what pronouns people use; the character is just referred to directly by name. I know this is a super rare case, but erm, would he/she count?

So like. Just have the fucking decency to realize that Abyss’ praise isn’t coming from a fucking vacuum. People still love it and are STILL begging Bamco to remaster it because it deserves it and stands the test of time moreso than a looooot of other (current) games. >_>;;

(Just a side note and not going to mention any specific names, but when certain Tales get praised for having the best “X” or the best “Y” and I KNOW Abyss did it better DECADES AGO, how do you think I feel about that? I mean…lmfao.)

So like… if you’re a lifelong gamer, this shouldn’t be anything new and/or surprising?? No one’s saying you HAVE to agree with what the majority seems to think is the best.

At the very least, you don’t have to be a fucking dickwad about it.

And like…every major series out there has their “holy grail” that most of their respective fans talk about. Zelda has OoT, maybe BotW. FF has FF7. Mario has SMB3 or SMW. Those are just off the top of my head.

…So why is it a fucking *big deal* when someone—heavens forbid—PRAISES it? Maybe—just MAYBE—you can try to use your goddamn head for a second and realize that its popularity exists FOR A REASON.

I could go on. Abyss just does a LOT of things either well and/or much better than most of the Tales in certain departments—if not ALL of the Tales, when we’re talking about story/plot-related aspects.

…And no, I DON’T mean just the gameplay.

Luke was a phenomenal MC. The party in general has great development overall. The antagonists ACTUALLY had depth. Luke/Tear is a very well-developed ship. And the camera work is very, VERY underrated for what was *only* a PS2 game.

I’ve played a dozen Tales games and Abyss was the second game I played after Symphonia. And while I LOVED Symphonia…Abyss literally took everything I liked from S and made it better, AND it took all the issues I had and fixed or improved upon them.

Apparently it’s a “problem” to *some* people when Abyss is treated as the “holy grail” of the series.

…And you know what? I think it’s the best game in the series by MILES, and if that means I’m treating it as the “holy grail”…then so fucking BE IT.
