You could check the census records! I think they only become available after 75 years but if the family was still there in 1950 it might be available.

I've just hosted an excellent talk by Dr Jo Billington from the University of Reading, about the lived experience of autistic children in mainstream primary schools. I ended with a great feeling of sadness, about how hard school is for some young people, but also with a sense of hope..
