When I was a little kid, I used to dream of swimming under the water like a mermaid. So, when I read the prompt for the December/January #scbwidrawthis, I knew exactly what to do - explore the deep sea with a mermaid and her friends! #scbwi #scbwiillustrators

This little guy is also a “villain” in my upcoming picture book, but the good guys find a way to help. I believe that kindness and generosity could save this troubled world. We need to teach our kids that being kind is more important than being best. That’s what this book is all about.

With all the real life villains in the world today, my little fox seems pretty civilized. However, just like real world bad guys, he’s taking something that doesn’t belong to him, and not caring who he hurts.
Perhaps this is a lesson that little kids need to learn while their hearts are still open?

Starting 2026 off with a bang! This is my first Bluesky post, and an illustration to introduce my upcoming picture book, “Winter’s Warmest Heart.” It’s a story about a tiny person living in a snowy forest, who discovers that sharing is the most heart-warming way to be a true friend.
