with pencil, you can erase and redraw. but its a bit more high friction than digital undo (so you dont become careless). and unlike digital u cant just shuffle stuff around with lasso and liquefy etc after drawing. i think those tools are useful in digital art but make it very easy to draw lazily?
if i were to make up reasons for this…
- physical sketchbook is nice bc its very eays to flip through pages of prev drawings and see what youve been doing recently
- pencil gives a lot of control over how heavy your line is and you can erase stuff. in comparison pen makes me afraid to commit lines.l
this is moslty bc im actually drawing every day i think but im improving a lot more comfortably doing daily pencil drawings as opposed to in the last when i mostly drew digitally. pencil just nice…

it had someone going for it at launch as far as characters etc went but the disney inspired art style (which i think at the time was,, fine) has been so overdone since it’s now just, default style for cartoony 3d and therefore not interesting at all

tldr ffxiv is the only mmo that punishes you for spending money (that i'm aware of)
a lot of ppl online do seem to genuinely believe this its kinda frustrating to see
also if you ever open the game on steam your account is now permanently only openable via steam. thats just jank?? like you still have to log in to a sqex account so it’s not like it’s using steam for auth
if you have a low level account that isn’t allowed access to the free trial anymore you might as well just make a new account instead imo
this is plainly stupid and feels rly bad for new players. and i doubt anyone who plays the game cares bc theyre all way past that point
its a rly bad first impression imo. either forfeit the free trial forever for the ability actually interact (and now if you come back later and youre like, level 30 and halfway through ARR u have to pay, even tho free trial ppl get all that for free), or play it and have the game feel dead
so as a result, it doesnt make any sense at all to pay a sub before hitting the end of the free trial.
this means u have to play like, 120 hours of the game while not being able to see anything most players are saying and not being able to see the trading post and not being able to pvp
if you ever pay a sub for ffxiv you can never access the free trial ever again. free trial lets you play like, 120 hours of single player story stuff and level a big pile of classes to 70, but if you decide to pay 1 month sub in the middle of that now all of that costs sub fee forever
ffxiv free trial is broken imo. you can play the base game and first expansion with it, but due to chat/trade etc restrictions it makes the actual social part of the game feel dead (cant see anything people are saying)
paying sub gets you those features, which is nice. id consider it. BUT
extreme style over substance manga basically lol. I think its a great introduction to shonen manga/anime (it was my first anime) and also a great way to learn all the things that suck about it lol

but it is also, cool, and has a lot of creative momn in bttles etc, and the characters are fun. and the 10th arrancar twist is so stupid i love it
it has a lot of terrible pacing. most of the fights are meaningless and against foes who were just invented on the spot to pad the story. arrancar arc is like 2-3x as long as it needs to be. injuries and losing powers and etc means nothing long term. theres like 2 arrancar with actual plot relevance
been reading bleach since i dropped the anime in the middle of hueco mundo when i was a teenager
im having a lot of fun talking about it with ppl! it sucks. but i like it anyway lol
i’ll take a look at this next time i want to do some 2d gamedev! (which could be any time inbetween the next 2 weeks and next 10 months,,)
(i think it’s less good for writing cutscenes etc but that’s why scripting languages exist)

honestly i think if the whole data oriented game engine thing keeps gaining momentum we might start seeing modern engines that work more like clickteam stuff again..
there’s a lot of things that can be fixed in the implementation but clickteam style event editing is one of the best ways to..
