Happy St. David's Day to Wales and the Welsh diaspora.
@baldman
Engineering geologist. Big interest in seismic hazard assessment and mitigation. Bald and have three cameras: Minolta XG-M, Zenza Bronica SQ-A, and Canon 6D. Lastly, only one space after periods and nobody gets hurt.
Q: What did the Buddhist ask the hot dog vendor?
A: βMake me one with everything.β
Welsh dragon in Mexico ? We get everywhere.
@ktla Your app doesnβt work now that we have to create an account. Just an empty black box in a web page.
San Miguel de Allende. Not much of geological interest yet, but stunning place.
#EQHistory: 1971 M6.6 San Fernando. The event killed 65. In the aftermath Caltech seismologist Clarence Allen went to Sacramento with a message: geologists know where active faults are and we can prevent building on them. His testimony helped the passage of the Alquist-Priolo Act. buff.ly/Yzs6NPt

This one is beautiful.
In my own hometown !! Amazing.
Yeah. Totally silent when not being silent matters. Would not vote for her. Totally out of touch.
A group of people stand on the steps of the Oakland, City Hall. The mayor speaks at a podium in front of them. A banner above their head reads βgreat Oakland shakeoutβ
A man and a black shirt stands in front of a table that says Department of conservation. On the table is a display of three different maps of California. One map shows earthquake, shaking potential, another map shows earthquake, shaking over the last 42 years, and the third map shows the location of seismic stations across California.
Two people sit in the lobby of a building behind a table that says Department of conservation. Another man stands in front of the table with his hands in his pockets. On the right is a seismometer with a display that is showing the motion of the ground. On the left are the same series of maps as in the previous image.
Two smiling people stand behind a table. On the table are rocks and other geologic related items. Behind them are maps of California.
The Great ShakeOut Earthquake drill was a success! Thanks to everyone who joined us across California and around the world.
Remember, if you feel earthquake shaking or receive an earthquake alert, drop down, take cover, and hold on. @calconservation.bsky.social
Wouldnβt have been a big deal if a guy said these things. Love she said those things. Got my vote.
Great pic with the trees for perspective.
Beautiful.
Fun Fact for the Day: The United States considers a fault active if itβs ruptured in the past 12,000 years. In New Zealand, itβs 125,000 years.
I thought this was rather interesting.

Good link. Thanks for sharing.
Onion is rarely funny, like this one.
ShakeMap for the 1906 San Francisco Earthquake. Map shows California and Nevada, shaded by color for shaking intensity, with the Mercalli Intensity Scale key at the bottom. A red line indicating extreme shaking stretches from near Salinas to Petrolia. The red line is surrounded by orange (severe shaking) to yellow (strong) all the way out to blue (light) beyond the central valley. The blue extends beyond the edges of the map, indicating that shaking would have been felt in all of Nevada and beyond.
On this day in 1906: the M 7.9 San Francisco Earthquake. I get chills every time I see this ShakeMap.
Publicly funded science is how we learn about quakes in CA and beyond, and how we prepare for future ones. Current federal attacks on science are an abandonment of communities facing these hazards:

There we go !!!
Them penguins, no-good individuals. We learned them.
Went rock shopping today. Doing some work in our back yard. Had an excellent time.
