✨ Females consumed more ethanol (by body weight) than males.
✨ Genetic reduction in SERT increased alcohol intake in offspring.
✨ Paternal ethanol exposure altered ethanol-induced motor effects in offspring rats—suggesting epigenetic influences.

3/ 🐀 Study setup We used serotonin transporter knockout (SERT) rats (SERT+/+, SERT+/−, SERT−/−) to study adolescent ethanol consumption and then looked at how their drinking affected the next generation’s response to alcohol. #intergenerational #alcohol #research

Alcohol use disorder (AUD) has ~50% heritability, yet mechanisms of how genetics and parental drinking interact remain unclear. Our work tackles this using a rat model to explore intergenerational influences.
