βThis feat is a clear signal that electric mobility in Nigeria is practical, scalable and ready for adoption,β Falaye said.
It is simple economics....
"EV charging costs average about $3 for up to 200 kilometers (123 miles), compared with more than $15 in petrol costs for similar distances."
The cleaner air is desperately needed especially in urban areas in both countries. Nairobi's air is not healthy!
Returning to Cape Town after 30 years & seeing African families enjoying public spaces alongside everyone else was such a breath of fresh air!
In 1995, I couldn't wait to finish my research & leave; this time was different.
The sacrifices of those that fought to end apartheid were all worth it.
Happy New Year from a very windy Cape of Good Hope.π
Seeing African penguins at home in the sand at Boulders was a treat & a contrast to penguins owning the snow in Antarctica.π§
Overfishing, competing with seals for food, & climate change, have put the African penguin on the critically endangered list, so South Africa plans to move them to a zoo..

Robben Island, where Mandela was imprisoned, is clearly visible from the top. I was lucky to make it down before the weather forced an evacuation.
It's been very windy in Cape Town today - I almost got blown over at one point! My trip to Robben Island got cancelled from rough seas.
Walking around the Bo-Kaap Cape Malay neighborhood, I learnt that their colorful houses symbolize freedom from slavery, which was granted to them in 1838.

Doges ruled Venice until Napoleon's conquest in 1797.
During the Renaissance, the Venetian School had pioneered new artistic styles. In music, Venice led in opening opera to the public in 1637.
I watched Verdi's opera about Roman refugees that founded Venice in 421 AD, having fled Attila's terror.

The Palace & Prison are connected by the 'Bridge of Sighs' that captives & convicts walked through to their cells.
The Doge's Palace in Venice is a reminder of the 15th & 16th century heyday of that Republic. The Doge (Head of State), once elected, lived here for life.
Membership in Venice's aristocracy wasn't land based; it was bought with money. Having a Doge in one's family was the ultimate status symbol.
So fascinating to see achievements of the Golden Age of Florence, Italy.
It'll be worth a return visit in 5 years when the restoration in the Baptistry & the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore will be complete.
What a coincidence to be in Rome at such a historic time! Though I missed the white smoke, I felt the crowd's excitement as people were leaving St. Peter's Square this evening.
