With each day bringing news of another country joining the war I am really worried that we're doing August 1914 with nuclear weapons.
there's a thing I like to call "load-bearing assumptions", that you don't notice until they're suddenly gone (e.g the air you breath has oxygen in it).
the post-ww2 order is a load-bearing assumption for basically the entirety of american life. trump took a sledgehammer to it in the last 90 days.

But in practice, yeah. Super-lazy back-of-the-envelope, holding all of Iran might require c. 600,000 ground troops. (~3x our max Iraq deployment).
But you also need rotations, so 2x or 3x that.

Judging from the prose, the Pentagon appears to be using AI to announce the death of soldiers. If itβs not AI, itβs a person who simply does not care.
i zoned out yesterday afternoon helping folks in the community with tax returns. prolly better for my mental health at this time, even though I love and miss my COYSky peeps
Good thread and article.
One factor it doesn't mention is that survey response rates have fallen a lot. The CPS (households) has gone from near 90% to <70%; the CES (estabs) from 60%+ to 42%; the JOLTS is in the low 30s. That hurts reliability and increases revisions.

For decades, women have provided critical services within the federal government. Women give quality healthcare, inspect food, provide disaster relief, fight wildfires, track down polluters & help veterans. We're honored to support women that work toward a government that works for everyone.
I thought California had a ban like this in the past? probably got overturned by SCOTUS though
everyone mistakes me for mid-30s all the time! unfortunately for this role, Iβm Filipino
Great new article on our report on barriers to access in Social Security disability programs.
Read all the way to the end. The closing quote from @ksavin.bsky.social is a banger.

And the over $1 trillion dollar cut to Medicaid will absolutely undermine even this relatively good labor market.
