I am seeing this every day. People afraid to come for medical care. Afraid to see a specialist or get an x-ray. They are afraid regardless of status, because it is abundantly clear to anyone paying attention that legal status (even citizenship) doesn't protect you

When I heard that one of the measures in the #BigBeautifuBill would institute work requirements for #Medicaid, I couldn't stop thinking about it
Almost ALL of my Medicaid patients work, or are too elderly or disabled to do so. New work requirements will cause them to lose their Healthcare, not because they don't meet them, but because proving they meet them is complicated and burdinsome.
This gave Black women the option to turn down work cooking and cleaning for White families, and those families complained to their elected officials.
They literally wrote a law that said all able-bodied Black women HAD to work, "regardless of whether they want to or have to"
Did you know that the first work requirements in the United States EXPLICITLY only applied to Black women? They were instituted during WW1 because women of all races whose husbands were deployed received war allowances.

One way most Americans will feel the OBBB law is through crowded ERs. No, not because uninsured folks will flood ERs. But because the law will close a lot of nursing homes. Which will create a backlog in the system overcrowding ERs.

I don’t think I’ve ever been this afraid for my patients. Some may lose their health care access. Some may lose their hospitals Some may lose their medications And at the end of it all, it won’t matter who had Medicaid and who didn’t . Everyone loses.
